I started getting into anime about 4 summers ago when I was introduced to Naruto and me being at that one age when one thinks many things are "the best" they watch a lot of it. I had downloaded an app onto my iPad that listed all the Naruto Episodes (through crunchyroll) and streamed them, but then the app stopped working one day. When I deleted it and went to re-download it I found the Crunchyroll app and I downloaded that instead. I managed to catch up with all the Naruto I had missed, started on Shippuden and I've been keeping up to date on that, and I gradually expanded out to watch more things, starting cautiously at first but now I've watched a good amount (in my opinion) and now anime has become the filler in that void in my life because life sucks.

Always like animation and the shows I were watching were alright, but too childish. Then finding more mature anime I soon liked it and kept with it.

Cartoon Network used to air Naruto episodes on wednesday or thursdays. My oldest brother was watching it and I was really interested and he explained it all. I Googled it and I was in love with the characters and storyline and it was so different to all the American cartoons. In the next few months I expanded the shows I watched. I stopped watching for quite a few years because there was no one to share it with and I didn'd see the point. Then one of my friends told me about this show called Ouran High School Host Club and I remembered hearing about it. I watched that and after watching it I realised I really missed Naruto and I wanted to catch up so, I caught up on all the episodes I missed and I cant stop watching ever since.
Long story short it was my brothers who introduced me.

I remember watching DBZ on Toonami and thinking this was the coolest shit I've ever seen but this was back in elementary school and middle school. I remember flipping through channels one night and I saw the 100 episode marathon of Naruto and I watched a few episodes and thought this was just like DBZ. I secretly watched this show thinking that it wasn't anime till i found out it was anime but didn't watch anything else besides Naruto and Bleach. Few years later, I gave Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood a shot and I loved it so i decided to give anime a shot and have yet to turn back after a year and a half of watching anime.

I started watching anime because as I was growing up I watched cartoons. From that I took a liking to Japanese art forms because I thought they where cartoons at the time I started watching dragonball z and sailor moon as I was still a kid/teen then branched out to more. Anime is AWESOME!

Most of the stuff people are listening as what got them into anime is what kept me away from it for over a decade. I was under the sincere impression that it was all garbage.

But a friend who was really into anime had been bothering me to watch Bakemonogatari for a few years, and I finally got super bored and checked it out. Immediately hooked. Now while the stuff I hate (shounen) is really popular, I realize there's quite a lot of really great anime out there that isn't anything like it.

The more I watch, though, the more I fear I'm going to run out of quality stuff soon. Guess this is how people get into light novels, eh?

I was profoundly transfixed by the rawness of its nature. The intelligence of its design. The lack of so many boundaries.

It's an ultimate in its field.

My anime ties trace back to when I was a kid and Yu Gi Oh, Pokemon, and Digimon were all the rage. I adored Pokemon, played the Yu Gi Oh card game, and didnt really care much for Digimon but still enjoyed it. Once I hit around the age of 11 I got very big into... well... guess what any 11 year old boy did at that time... porn. I didn't know what the heck I was doing, but I enjoyed it, and eventually from that I started viewing hentai.

All of this though was just a net across the surface of the ocean compared to when I really started enjoying anime. My first real anime I watched happened back in 2008 on some night and was a complete accident.

I first watched Now and Then, Here and There on accident one night on Adult Swim like 5 years ago (I, at the time, hated anime, I thought it was stupid) I instantly fell in love with NT, HT though. I bought the box set of it even, (like $50) just so I could finish watching it and not have to wait until the next week on Adult Swim.

After about a year the same thing happened, but this time with a different show. Before I went to bed one night I was about to go to sleep and put this show on (that was on Adult Swim) just as something to have on in the background while I slept. I watched it for a little while and remembered seeing it on tv before. My first impression was "oh, this is that really weird show with the white creatures with holes in their chests"... That show was Bleach, ep. 128. I watched Bleach every week after that night up to ep. 152 when i decided, f*** it, I am going to watch it from the beginning online. I then started watching it on Youtube and various other websites. I am currently still watching Bleach even (I am on ep. 312 now).

Note that still at this point, I did not remotely like anime I just gave those two shows, Bleach and NTHT, the benefit of the doubt. That was however, until I watched FLCL on Adult Swim accidentally about a year after Bleach (lol are you noticing a pattern?) The difference was though that FLCL was HILARIOUS. It was unlike anything I had watched up to that point. That was when I realized... maybe I actually DO like anime and its not just a, well... that show was alright... but the rest are stupid. After viewing FLCL I immediately joined an anime forum and tried to find the next show I wanted to watch. That next show was Clannad and Clannad: After Story. <---- THIS right here is why I feel in love with anime. Clannad was beyond any story I had ever viewed in a digital format up to that point in my life. After Clannad I could then call myself an anime fanatic, and is really the only tv I watch anymore up to today =) That's my story.

I've been a huge fan of animated media since as far back as I can remember(1958) So I really don't remember why. I've been watching Japanese anime since about the mid 60's.My first experience with Manga was in the mid seventies in the service. As my Children grew up in the 80's I had more time to watch and became a huge fan of the more current Japanese anime productions.
