Hey guys,
Today is a big day for Crunchyroll and the future of anime.

We are excited to welcome aboard a new investor to Crunchyroll, someone who will help us make the future of anime even bigger and brighter.

With each investor previously, we were able to make a huge leap towards our mission of bringing anime to the world. In 2008, we received investment from Venrock, which allowed us to grow quickly and go to Japan to talk directly with anime studios and broadcasters. In Japan, we met many great partners, including TV TOKYO, the biggest broadcaster for anime. They decided to invest into Crunchyroll in 2010, and continue to be a huge supporter of our mission to spread anime worldwide.

This season, we had a record of 44 anime simulcast. In addition, we launched a digital manga service, expanded our streaming service to France, and worked with our friends at Toei to finally simulcast one of the biggest anime titles of all time in One Piece.

Crunchyroll has been, and always will be the home for anime and everything Japan, and nothing will change that. Our new investors, TCG, share our passion and mission, and will provide us even more resources and support to achieving our goals. Together, we want to bring even more of anime and Japan to Crunchyroll.

I personally want to thank the entire Crunchyroll community and all of our members, who have supported us each step of the way (some of the mods/translators have even joined Crunchyroll full time). I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

We still have a lot more to do, and our mission has always been and always will be the same. We're going to bring the best of anime and Japan to fans worldwide, and nothing will stop us!

~ Shinji

Booooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! This is going to be realllllly bad. Especially now they have the controlling stake in the company - its his way or the highway.

I didnt like what he had to say in his interview.
I see sub prices going up, ads on everything and everywhere.
He doesnt care about the community, just pure profit.
Hell, he wants to bring in other media sources - why? CR was built on anime and drama and is supported by them. I dont want to be inundated with useless networks bringing in people who have nothing to do with the original meaning and foundation of what CR is built upon.

This is going to be bad, very very bad

These people are pure greed. They dont care what they have to do to make their money back the fastest way.
Sure, bringing in other anime networks is good, but anything other than anime and drama is going to be the death of this company.

nope, still have ownership! bringing in a new investor who replaces Venrock and can help us get to our goal of 100% of all anime on Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll is going to remain the home of anime and everything Japan. Not going to bring anything else in =)

Does this new investor have a controlling say on what the site does?

For example if they say adopt the Hulu way and charge members for videos plus subject them to ads, would you or will Crunchyroll maintain it's longstanding policy with no change other than more funding for your company?

I'm all for the site getting more sponsors, but if they want to come in and change things to squeeze out extra profit I won't be very interested personally.

Really bad news. Get ready for ads and increase on price in less than a year kids.

Thats exactly what they did. This fool that bought the company loved CRs streaming service, thats its superior then most other services like so.
Since the new owner is in media and owns other media outlets, i bet you he will be using the same exact concept for their streaming services.
Which will hurt CR, because CR wont have the superior stream service anymore.

I bet you that this is the only reason he bought it, for the streaming. Now he can make the decision to use it where he likes and sell to who he likes.

CR you fell for a fools trap.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Crunchyroll,” said Peter Chernin, Founder & CEO of TCG. “The Crunchyroll founders and senior management team have accomplished two incredible things. One, they have built one of the leading online video companies in the industry. And, two they have created the best and largest community for anime video in the world. We couldn't be more excited about the future. Our plan is to continue to grow the anime vertical as well as launch new channels in different genres. Online video is growing faster than any other sector within media, and we feel that with Crunchyroll, we have a fantastic, anchor platform."

That does not sound like they are not going to bring anything new in.

If it means no more bandwidth problems at peak hours, I'm all for it. If it means adds with my paid membership, then you lost mine.
