I read something about this on another website and honestly it's probably a very good thing. CR has done nothing but grow over the years and now they should have more resources to grow even further.

For this season I think there are only a couple titles that I kind of wanted to see that aren't streaming here, but basically everything I wanted is here, especially seeing as how Funimation lost what little business of mine they had with One Piece and didn't license anything else decent this season.

I've been around here awhile and seen the site go through some ups and downs, seasons where there was very little licensed, and all other sorts of issues. But lately it's done nothing but improve. and after getting One Piece I think we can all see that what we thought was impossible can actually happen with the right connections. I really can't wait to see what happens next.

no investor can force us to do what we don't want, and obviously no one would do something thats bad for crunchyroll -_-

this is a community and an awesome service we've all built together, and we are going to make sure this is a service built for fans by fans

nope, still have ownership! bringing in a new investor who replaces Venrock and can help us get to our goal of 100% of all anime on Crunchyroll

Does this new investor have a controlling say on what the site does?

For example if they say adopt the Hulu way and charge members for videos plus subject them to ads, would you or will Crunchyroll maintain it's longstanding policy with no change other than more funding for your company?

I'm all for the site getting more sponsors, but if they want to come in and change things to squeeze out extra profit I won't be very interested personally.

The question truly is Shinji, Does Crunchyroll still run crunchy roll or does the new shareholder hold the majority of the stock and now Crunchy roll is a product of the new company. I ask as i worry that the product I have supported for years (and the manner in which you have provided it) can quickly and easily change. I sincerely hope that either way it doesn't change. It just seems too easy for it to change if Crunchyroll is no longer owned by Crunchyroll.

thanks for the vote of confidence schnipdip -_-

over the past years, we've always put our fans and viewers first, and thats not going to every change.

so trust that this will make crunchyroll even better and more awesome ~!

Thats exactly what they did. This fool that bought the company loved CRs streaming service, thats its superior then most other services like so.
Since the new owner is in media and owns other media outlets, i bet you he will be using the same exact concept for their streaming services.
Which will hurt CR, because CR wont have the superior stream service anymore.

I bet you that this is the only reason he bought it, for the streaming. Now he can make the decision to use it where he likes and sell to who he likes.

CR you fell for a fools trap.

Yes they can if they own 51% or more of the company.

I have no problem with bringing more Anime in, as well as possibly some J-Dramas or other Japanese pop culture, but if greed is the driving force behind TCG's investment, who's to say that they won't make changes that take away from what we love about Crunchyroll??? Sure right now things can look great, but down the line profit will be more important then fans......

......... unless they're talking about making a 2nd site devoted to other genres, then CR can still be a great place.

What other genres are you referring to??

As long as we don't get ads for premium members then I really could care less. Hope this works out for the best. However ads = dropping crunchyroll in that instant. I don't care if I can't get a refund on my remaining membership, I will gladly go back to torrenting rather than view ads.

we still run the show, and there's been no change, the team and myself are all really excited that we have even more support to make the crunchyroll product even better

I hope what some people here are saying doesn't come true. Main reason I subbed was the quantity of anime and obviously the ad free streaming. I love this site so much, I spend so much time here, whether on my pc, tablet, or my xbox. I am happy for you guys, but for my sake I hope the only thing that changes is us getting our hands on even more anime.

more j-dramas would be awesome -_-

Crunchyroll is the home of Anime and all cool stuff from Japan, and nothing else. Thats not going to change!

Here's the press release from a couple days ago for a bit more of an overview, for those interested.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/press-release/2013/12/02-1/the-chernin-group-acquires-majority-stake-in-crunchyroll-the-leading-global-video-streaming-service-for-anime-content

Can you elaborate on Mr. Chernin's comments on "grow[ing] the anime vertical"? Is CR looking to distribute physical media in the future? Or perhaps work with studios directly? Or is he just talking about more titles in an obtuse way?
