Just wait until the story dies down a bit then new ads on premium users, subs go to 15+ and management changes in Crunchyroll. Good luck shinji and the rest of the Crunchyroll staff surviving the transition.

Sounds interesting I guess. Hope CR will stream a ton of series from the 2014 lineup. Would be nice if you guys started adding more manga though. That section is a bit lacking imo right now.

I do have One interesting question.....

With this kind of financial investment in CR and the ambition to keep growing over the years, are you considering creating ORIGINAL anime programming??? Much like Netflix & Hulu have done with live programming.

I'll be honest, that's been a intriguing idea for you guys to try.....

What's the difference between "growing anime vertically" and growing anime horizontally?

thanks for the vote of confidence schnipdip -_-

over the past years, we've always put our fans and viewers first, and thats not going to every change.

so trust that this will make crunchyroll even better and more awesome ~!

I trust CR. i dont trust greedy investors. Theres a difference.

CR should have at least consulted the community first with what the gameplan is an what exactly this investors plan is. He gave zero details in his interview, which leads me to believe that he is hiding something. Much like how politions dance around the question.

I bet this investor hasnt watched more then a days worth of anime in his life - where as probably 97-98% of CRonians have spent a day or more on anime.
This investor wouldnt know anime if it hit him over the head.

Investors = Greed

hey ecorank, we aren't increasing prices or adding ads to premium users.

how about if there's still no ads for premium, and prices stay the same this time next year, then you owe me a cookie =)

If this means that Crunchyroll can get the new PreCure series, I'm all for it!

Seriously, congrats on getting a good investor. Hope it works out for the best.

If it helps get to get more anime I'm all for it, I have not been a Anime member for as long as I been on Crunchyroll (using free free trail thingys on another acc) but I been here long enough to see it improve which is why I made another acc and made myself a member. Keep up the good work Crunchy!!

Dammit Shinji!! You have me in an uproar now and im trying to go to bed XD didnt even get to watch my nightly 2 hrs of anime before bed :/

I just dont want to see you guys fail. Taking in an investor who probably little to nothing about anime is a huuuuge risk. Like betting a million dollars that you're going to win the lottery size risk.

I don't really have complaints about CR and if the price for premium go up a dollar or two, let it be as long as it isn't super expensive. People who just complain about how change will make things worse are mainly thinking from that perspective(being biased). Yeah on an article he boast about having majority control but it doesn't always mean that it'll change CR a bunch and even if it does change can be good sometimes. I have a bunch of people added on here and I know for a fact that this isnt the only site they use and it isnt the only site I use. You can give me a list of anime and I can guarantee I've watched over half of them not only from this site but from others as well. CR has my support has long as it doesn't get too pricey cause many of the users I know are in somewhat of school and funds aren't always high like mine. You need to cut Shinji some slack cuz he's also affected by this too.

PS~ Im someone who spends WAY too much time on CR

I love how everyone is all "doom and gloom", EVERYONE CALM YOUR ASSES. I know that since you are all human, you hate change and belive that change means the same thing as the end. Let's just wait and see what comes out of this, it could be bad, however it could be a fantastic new age for Crunchyroll.

I don't know too much about business/shareholders/etc. so I was extremely worried when I read "Chernin buys anime site Crunchyroll..." and "With the investment by Chernin, the company is expected to dabble into new channels outside of its core anime vertical."

As worried as I am though, if shinji has faith (and is even excited) about this development I think we should trust that mostly good things will come from it. If not, everyone blame shinji!

Vertical integration would be incorporating more portions of the lifecycle of an anime (from creation to broadcast to sales, etc). Horizontal integration in this case would be adding more diverse titles and distribution areas. What made the comment confusing was that Mr. Chernin said "THE vertical" as opposed to just "vertical." That could have meant expanding their existing vertical integration vertically or horizontally. In this case, it looks like he meant horizontally.

Well um since your adding a new investor, maybe CR could sell imports too sometime soon?
Like for instance the upcoming 2014 line up of shonen jump magazines with the Gintama spine illustrations?
If not, pointing out the direction where one could procure those books would be awesome.
