You could start by sending me a cookie with a note attached to it reading: "schnipdip, you are the greatest, most cool guy in the world, Love Shinji"

That'll do it

The price has not changed in years, please go, you do not know what you are talking about kind sir. I literally just checked a statement from 2011.

When i signed up for premium it was 5$ cause i remeber i wasnt willing to pay anything over that since i was on a tight budget for college. Must have been a deal or something. I remember comparing Funi an Cr and thought that Funi was so much more expensive then CR that why i went with CR.
now they are almost the same price

They are not almost anything, as already stated premium has always been the same price. "Now they are almost" implies that the price has been slowly rising, which is not the case. Go play devil's advocate somewhere else, it's honestly annoying.

You know, I bet when the other investors invested in Crunchyroll and CR announced it people blew up, but obviously everything turned out just fine and Crunchyroll is the way it is now, which for the most part people are fairly pleased about. Obviously the website is not perfect (I've had video playback problems often), but one can say that the previous investors did CR more good than harm. Granted, I haven't been on the site for too long, however it doesn't seem to have gone downhill.

I just don't like making negative predictions about things I have no control over. Seems pointless to me, and quite a waste of time.

we actually looked into something like this... the problem is books/magazines are really heavy and shipping is really expensive from japan.. either you pay a lot to ship quickly, or it takes weeks/months to ship and it'll be dated

Well um since your adding a new investor, maybe CR could sell imports too sometime soon?
Like for instance the upcoming 2014 line up of shonen jump magazines with the Gintama spine illustrations?
If not, pointing out the direction where one could procure those books would be awesome.

So short of going there and getting it, it wouldn't be sensible to pay outrageous prices to get it here?

Booooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! This is going to be realllllly bad. Especially now they have the controlling stake in the company - its his way or the highway.

I didnt like what he had to say in his interview.
I see sub prices going up, ads on everything and everywhere.
He doesnt care about the community, just pure profit.
Hell, he wants to bring in other media sources - why? CR was built on anime and drama and is supported by them. I dont want to be inundated with useless networks bringing in people who have nothing to do with the original meaning and foundation of what CR is built upon.

This is going to be bad, very very bad

Actually it's nothing to panic about. Their company isn't worth a lot for investors to "lose" anything from their. From what I read, CR is worth roughly below $100 Million. It might seem like a big number but its not very significant when you look at other companies.

All in all we just have to wait and see what "new" things come to the table. I hope this means better application support for Android especially since I have been posting about that for over 2 years and yet its still in the same state.

I'm going to be optimistic about this. Hopefully this means less buffering issues in the future. (I'm about ready to pull my hair out trying to watch valvrave right now)

I remain optimistic for now. As with all change the only thing you get out of focusing on the possible negative outcome is grey hairs and the right to be the one saying "I told you so" - and nobody likes that guy.
I for one intend to enjoy what I have in CR now and worry about what might happen when it happens.

Any chance this means it's easier for you to get european licenses now?

Crunchyroll is the home of Anime and all cool stuff from Japan, and nothing else. Thats not going to change!

Im sure that the majority of the animosity of this thread isnt that we dont trust you shinji or the management team of crunchyroll, its just that we've grown to expect crunchyroll to remain as you've said, Purely about anime and japanese culture. yet the press release clearly says that this new investor plan doing more with the company then merely allowing it to continue being just about anime. (TCG intends to work with Crunchyroll and its management team both to grow the existing anime business and to use Crunchyroll as a platform to launch new non-anime channels across multiple different genres.) sure, that could mean more live action series/movies from japan, which would be great since the demand for such seems to have grown since there have been numerous j-drama acquisitions. but, with how vaguely they said it it seems like it could also lean to be more like CR will become another hulu, streaming everything and anything from anywhere, which may not be bad for sales, its just isnt what the community would like to see CR become

To be honest about Crunchyroll, I see NO competition from any streaming company!

The quality, the timing, the subs, even the biggest anime series's made it to crunchyroll like Attack on Titan, Hunter X Hunter, Naruto, One Piece, Kill La Kill, Sword Art Online, Magi, Kuroko's Basketball.. Do I need to continue!?

But there are problems, and the worst problem for me is streaming in 1080p which has a lag break every 2 seconds while I can run 1080p on youtube super fine!
Fix this and it'll be the best service I have paid for.

Perhaps you confused the price for premium anime membership with the all-access membership that includes drama and manga?

Anyway, put me down as cautiously optimistic. Big new investors sounds good. "Buys controlling interest in" sounds worrying. If the new owners are sane and reasonable, they will realize that CR became the best for good reason and let those who built the company continue to improve it. If they are not sane and reasonable... I'm getting EA/Bioware flashbacks is all.

Greed is not inherently bad, because these days the things that make people like you are also the things that make you the most money when you're a software or entertainment company (look at Google and Valve). Stupidity is the enemy, because it makes people chase every penny in the short term and lose their market in the long.

Well, I'm strapped in for a year. If prices go up after that, I'll probably be okay with it within reason (CR membership would be a good value at double what we're paying). If non-anime is added, I might actually be in favor (there are a lot of things I would be watching if they weren't on such shitty sites or behind such terrible ads) but I'll probably just ignore them.
If ads appear on the premium videos I will immediately drop the site and burn what's left of my subscription, but that seems unlikely to happen.
