I keep wondering WHAT IS PMMM?
Then I googled and like, it's almost obvious now but, WHY ARE WE NOT JUST CALLING IT MADOKA MAGICA? IS IT THAT HARD? DO YOU PEOPLE GET OFF ON MAKING THESE SHORT HANDS THAT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT?

And I thought I was the only one.

Well, to answer the forum, I don't know. But, to me, Akagi is pretty legendary.

It actually took me a second to catch what PMMM was, myself, and it's one of my favorite animes of all time. I mean, it IS easier than typing out Puella Magi Madoka Magica, or even Madoka Magica. I'll probably start using it myself.

As was previously mentioned, this is an extremely subjective question. Because of that, this question easily has the potential to turn this thread into a huge, argumentative war. Everyone here probably loves an anime that someone else here hates, so the only one that can possibly answer this question is the one who asked it, because it's based purely on personal taste. Sure, there are animes that are much more well-received than others, but there are always people who will rate something 10/10 while another person rates it 1/10. Look at what types of things you like, and you'll easily find out the answer to your question. Keep in mind, however, that many will not share your views.

In my opinion, however, my favorite animes consist of Clannad After Story, Highschool DxD NEW, Madoka Magica, Monogatari Series, and (not as popular) Seitokai Yakuindomo.

Replay value. Shows that you can watch over and over and it still seems fresh. In my case Yu Yu Hakusho, The Future Diary, and Soul Eater. I can watch those shows forever.

I suppose a franchise would be considered "Legendary" if it has the potential to still be discussed or hailed well after it stopped having any media, sequels, or parodies released for it. And it would have to be considered "well-done" by today's standards as well (so that new fans could pop up.)

Cardcaptor Sakura, Captain Harlock, Evangelion (there was a great many years before the 1.0+ movies,) and just about any anime that's received a remake or sequel 5+ years later could undoubtedly be considered legendary.

Sailor Moon is a very good contender with a 20th anniversary anime being made.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is just now getting Stardust Crusaders adapted into an anime.. 10 YEARS after the OVA/game and 11 years after that part of the manga was officially concluded in most regions.
Parasyte's manga was concluded about 10 years ago and is now being re-adapted into an anime and 2 live-action films.

Since most anime are created to support a manga or novel, if the manga completely finished for a long period of time before a new anime is adapted for it, it's rather legendary.

Same goes for an anime that has already concluded for 5+ years. If people still discuss it and hail it many years after advertisement and sequels stopped appearing, it's rather legendary.

By the way, they need Evangelion toilet seat covers.

If by legendary, you mean a big piece of crap, than yes.

It wasn't, but ok. That's your opinion. It's similar to PMMM or Evangelion in that it's a deconstruction, only of the typical harem theme. I was partially joking as well. No show is "legendary" in my book. Nothing is, really.

You're saying it's actually good and it is on par with the 2 most popular anime shows out there?

Yeah.... I don't think I will ever read any of your posts ever again.

Legendary anime is something subjective, but everyone will have their opinions on it. What I conclude as legendary; is anime that has an appeal that is lasting and generally speaking animes that start a trend. If the anime is the beginning of a long time trend, everyone knows it even people who don't even WATCH anime and things of that nature-- It's pretty much in the legendary catagory.

Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu yu Hakasho and Inuyasha for example are staple animes that everyone heard of.

Full metal Alchemist, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Series, ect. All these names are brand ones that have reached a status that one can call legendary.

In my opinion if I had to list a few anime I think personally deserve to be in the legendary catagory.

Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade
Read Or Die [TV and Movie]
Puella Magical Girl Madoka [Mentioned already, but this is pretty much awesome. Fresh for it's genre]
Eureka Seven [+++]

School Days is legendary in it's own respect, infamously maybe but it is something you can classify as legendary. Everyone knows about it, at least in the anime community everyone knows about it. Im not going to say it was the greatest series I have watched, it isn't. But in terms of genre shifting, making me feel like everything I ever KNEW about Harem anime. .. Meant nothing. .

THere is no feelings to describe the horror I realized when I watched School Days, and how much I enjoyed it and wanted to get into the Visual Novel.

It's weird yes, but i must admit I love it when a series does something completely left field that I can't argue. Hence why I love Mirai Nikki as well.

i'd say it's legendary if people remember it long after it's prime....

stuff like Akira and Evagelion are pretty old at this point but people still can reference them like they just watched it not too long ago.

Akira is up there when it comes to legendary.
The Miyazaki films are as well.

If we're gonna mention franchise then, Gundam is up there.

Just my opinion.

The only feeling I had was that I wasted my time reading it even though I barley read any of it at all

Can't argue that. Each to their own really.

I'd call a legendary anime (or manga, for that matter) one that does something someone else has done before, but does it in an original way and makes it new again. Legendary shows have legendary characters, too, and then you have to think about what makes a legendary character. I'm having a hard time thinking about something you could willingly call legendary. Maybe...yeah, you got me.
