It would be horrible. And this is why: Attack on Titan is so gory, it would be rated NC-17 more than likely. Movie studios don't want to do even rated R films for movies like this, because they want to be able to capture the young audience as well as adults. So, immediately they would start slashing and watering down the most epic moments of the anime. (The death of Eren's mother, Eren's arm being severed while swallowed by a titan, Captain Levi's team being wiped out, etc...) The intense fight scenes between Eren and Annie, would be dumbed down. They'd do everything possible to get it rated PG-13.

More than that, the animation allows them to look really cool while moving on their 3D gear, but in live-action, those angles and those speeds would be impossible. They'd look more like Spiderman moving around, which would be lame and slow down the fights with the titans.

Lastly, the story is too complicated to be packed into a 90 minute live-action film. It's two season already and we still don't even know what the Titans are, where they come from, why they target humans, why some of them are different, what's Annie's whole deal, or even what's in Eren's basement. All the suspense and guesswork would be removed.

I wouldn't want to see a live-action of this. Some things only work in a Manga/Anime format.

It would never be nc17 because of gore.... you gotta be joking

Come on, man. If you're going to act snarky, at least know what you're talking about. Movies get NC-17 ratings for "Extreme Bloody or Horror Violence." A lot of rated R movies are edited to be watered down from the original Rated NC-17 they received by cutting out extreme graphic violence. Some examples are American Psycho, The Hills Have Eyes, Army of Darkness and The Boondock Saints.

NONE of those movies, had scenes where a woman was being eaten in half by a giant with her guts squirting out all over a neighborhood, or a one-armed man swimming inside of the guts of a titan filed with partially digested bodies, or a captain having his entire body eaten with his head popping out of the mouth of a titan. Attack on Titan, as is, would easily get an NC-17 rating from the MPAA. No question.

A lot of old horror movies have guts and entrals spewing out of people\ beheadings and are rated r. Hell even more recent (90's) movies have some crazy stuff too. Kill bill vol 1 even more recent shows hacked off limbs \ decapitation now that I think about it. Also inglorious basterds- scalping nazis and showing hitlers face litterally getting torn apart by smg fire. Jurassic park - a guy getting ripped in half by 2 t-rex, I think this was in the second one.

i dont think that you have to worry about the violence in an AoT live action movie getting it a more stringent rating...however. they would probably try to make it a PG-13 affair and they would have to tone down the violence, a little. cut aways at key moments, creative uses of camera angles, there are a ton of ways to keep the violence level high while keeping the gore factor low. and even then you can still have a decent amount of that without getting that feared R rating in Hollywood. Hollywood is more concerned with perversity, sex, nudity, and language than it is any amount of violence.

This, as kyles mom said you can show as much violence as you want, as long as there's no bad language(and nudity I guess )

Jack Nicholson has a great quote about the movie rating system. I can't post it here because it might violate TOS. lol.

casting? How about this line-up

Levi *******: dane dehaan

Erwin: Tom Hardy

Petra: Emma Stone

Crista Lenz: Chloe Moretz

Dot Pixis: Bryan Cranston

Hannes: Sean Bean

Armin Arlert: Brendan meyer

Bertholdt Fubar: Freddie Highmore

Rico: Maisie Williams

Grisha Jaeger: Jim Carrey

Overall i think it's good, but all that matters is that you acknowledge dane dehaan is the only person that can play levi.

I am hoping that it does well, although, even though this is being made in Japan doesn't mean it WILL be good.

That Japanese one they are making is going to be so off.

They need to make one in Hollywood while consulting the original manga writer and staying as close to the source material as possible.

Sure it could turn out as bad as Air Bender but I don't think anyone will top the travisty that was Dragon Ball: (De)Evolution

It could work. The only problem I would see in the live action is after 100 years they are still using cannon balls for their defense but can fly around with advance technology.

This might be the first thread about a movie where people are saying "OMG WE NEED MORE WHITE PEOPLE" that I've ever read. Granted, I lurk IMDB too much for my own good though.

I actually wouldn't mind this cast at all. And have Rinko Kikuchi play as Mikasa since she would be great with the monotone character:
