no integrity at all. changing the ending of YOUR story to cater to ANYONE is bullshit. same thing that pissed me off about Bioware caving to whiny fan-things concerning the Mass Effect 3 ending fiasco.

I know nothing about Bioware or Mass Effect 3 but you're right him changing his ending.

I, for one, think an "everyone dies" or "nearly everyone dies" type of ending would be fitting for this manga. I can also easily see an "it was all a dream!" ending happening. I would prefer the deaths, but either way. I actually don't mind a dream ending so much for this particular series, as long as they are still within the walls/stuck with the Titans once Eren (or whoever) wakes up.

I'm not gonna hate on the mangaka for whatever ending he chooses. I can dislike it all I want, but ultimately, it's his story and he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. I don't think he should be afraid of fan backlash. There will always be immature haters out there, no mater what you do. He'd exhaust himself trying to cater to everyone.

But, I can also understand if he has grown too attached to the characters to kill them off.

The fan-fiction I'm writing goes past the latest chapter, so yes. Everything up until the "Titan Clash" Arc is in my story that is of relevance to it, and I've looked them over multiple times. The chapters, I mean. I believe the next chapter comes out on Monday, the 9th. I've kept it canonical as possible, thus far. I think so, anyway.

What about it, though?

I do hope every question get a good answer in this series. I hope that whatever is in the basement worth all the lost soldiers and can help humanity fight back. I don't mind an almost every dies ending though because I was hoping that Eren honestly does reach the outside. Still he needs to get to the basement before even getting to the outside though.

How many years did he plan on continuing with the manga?

Like that wasn't already obvious to the point of being retarded. It didn't reveal anything important other than that, which is to say wasn't much.

I just wanted to know if you caught up but I agree because I knew it was obvious. We still don't know what caused those people to become Titans in the first place. We'll get to that point in the story eventually.

If you want, you can read my fan fiction. Soon, once I'm done going through it and tidying it up, I'm moving to the next point in the story which is the origin of one the characters, and with that origin, theories on the Titans. No, it isn't

It's an original character of mine who's in a similar situation. Instead of sixty years, she's been around for a hundred years (thus, being the oldest character in the story thus far), which is to say, when the Walls were newly raised. I'm doing my best to flesh out every single character that is of purpose to the plot of the story and a few who aren't. I even try and make the canonical characters who are considered "one dimensional" more "two dimensional", like Mikasa and Levi.

It used to be 27 chapters at a 170, 000 word count, but recently I went back and removed dabble that wasn't necessary and am currently at 14 chapters and a 80,000 word count.

It focuses on Annie and Ymir as the two main canon characters, with Krista, Levi, Erwin, Sasha, Hange, and Mikasa as major supporting. The rest, including Eren, have more minor roles. Or should I say, will have. The other characters it focuses on are a handful of original characters I've come up with. The three main ones being Fritz (short for Friedrich) Brandt (also the name of a German photographer pioneer, interestingly enough), Achi Almen (who has connections to Annie), and Eliza Garrot (who has connections to Ymir, the Titans, the King, and the secrets of the Walls as a whole). The major supporting characters include: Ines Brandt (Fritz's older sister), Jayce Mundis, and Eletta Hombeck. None of them have "plot armor", which means anyone in the story could die at some point without warning. That includes both canonical and non-canonical, main and minor characters. Nobody is safe from death, really. Here's a link, if you're interested:

V Just saying, but he probably won't kill anyone too important, maybe more minor characters like Connie. I, personally, wouldn't be surprised if Erwin went out of control and bit the dust.

Akame ga Kiru! is a good example of a Shounen doing this (killing characters seemingly left and right). Repeatedly.

Guys are flipping out quite a bit here... First off, all he said is that the ending is not going to be as traumatically devastating as originally planned. That does NOT mean that some of the main characters or what not will not bite the dust at a later point. It just means that it isn't going to be set as "everything is hopeless and the last glimmer of hope dies off too." Which I am grateful for, really. Those types of endings make everything pointless to begin with. Might as well of just killed everyone in the first chapter at that point and saved everyone the trouble. XD

And who is to say that all the huge following and what-not got him more involved in his own story and he started to LIKE his characters enough to NOT want to see them all die and/or fail miserably at the end now? Personally, it is not going to be a standard "happy ending" or what ever people are thinking from this at all. I guarantee it will be VERY bitter-sweet and something more akin to the ending Madoka Magica and the like. There WILL be prices to pay, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few main characters die near the end.

...so he's getting rid of/heavily revising one of the major elements of AoT that people have been praising it for and that makes it stand out from every other manga (and eventually anime): by giving the characters plot armor?

Look, not that I want a "Everyone dies, the Titans prevail, humanity becomes instinct" ending. Far from it. I at least want a bittersweet ending, where humanity succeeds but at a high cost.

On the other hand, well, this is the price of popularity I suppose...
