drifting is not, i repeat, IS NOT FASTER then gripping a corner.
first off, in order to drift you burn off a bunch of speed going through the turn, so while your entry speed may be higher, your exit speed is terrible.
secondly, why over complicate things? seriously, the fastest method is always the simplest. throwing in extra junk into your cornering method simply keeps you distracted from other things.
third, the damage you would do to your tires is just ghastly. if it were a multilap race, any time you potentially gained while drifting would be lost in the pit having to replace tires so often.
and finally, sorry to break your hearts kids, but even Keichi Tsuchiya himself admits drifting is not the fastest way to take a turn.
and on that note, i leave you with some words from the drift king himself:
"I drift because it is not the fastest way around a corner, but the most exciting"
