Any reggae/dancehall fans?
Posted 12/8/13 , edited 12/8/13
Just curious if there are any reggae/dancehall fans in the community? I know japan has a reggae/dancehall community especially since one of the dancehall queens was japanese. And the UK has a reggae/dancehall community with alot of artists coming out of England and i know of one artist from Germany (Gentleman) all doing big tings. Show your appreciation for the genre. Or post why you don't like it or if you never experienced it.

Edit: I have also noticed some reggae influence in anime. Have you noticed any?

In one piece i noticed characters wearing red, gold, green (and sometimes black) colored clothing. You cant tell me thats not from influence of reggae to spot them colors. It also occurs too often to be coincidence.

Also on shin-chan i noticed one of the ending songs most definatley had reggae influence towards the end of the song almost like japanese reggae haha

Ya man that counts. Maxi Priest is a classic. Everyone knows Wild World, thats a big tune. "House Call"(Ft. Shabba Ranks), "In The Springtime" and "Should I" dem some big chunes. "Some guys have all the luck" great choice! Another one of his biggest hits.

EDIT: What doesnt count is artists like Sublime, Dirty Heads, Pepper, The Supervillans, and Slightly Stoopid. Although they are good and do have reggae/dancehall influence. I believe the genre is considered ska (i call it american reggae lol)

Scratch Perry is amazing, watch "The Upsetter" if you haven't yet. I'm a music producer and it's so inspiring to see how crazy and magical he is. He's a real life anime superhero!

Panty and stocking with garter belt; the opening (or ending, can't remember) definately has a reggae influence. Great song too.

Yess Lee "Scratch" Perry a legend in the industry who worked with bob marley. Any GTA V fans out there check out the station Blue Ark where Scratch Perry is the DJ and features a few of his dub tracks, my favorite was disco devil which was a dub of chase the devil by max romeo (chase the devil was in GTA san andreas)

To change it up, a newer artist people might know that i think is pretty awesome is Collie Buddz
My fav track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26k6ioIlSfQ - blind to you
One you might know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f1c6fRuyqs - come around

Actually Reggae has it's roots in Ska. Ska came before Reggae and both are from Jamaica not America.

As for your original post while I was in Japan I saw tons of reggae bars. They also have a pretty vibrant Skinhead community and I heard reggae at several skinhead bars from time to time.

Are you into Rock Steady if your not into ska really?

I like rocksteady and ska more but its all great. First two Gregory Issacs/AlCampbell I guess are considered dancehall, never called them that but I have been enjoying their tunes for years. I love listening to Jimmy Cliff hes one of my favorites & Alton Ellis is classic.

My Uncle got me into Yellowman and Linton Kwesi Johnson rather early admittedly not directly when we used to go over there he had it blasting from his room at 11. This had it rub off on me.

But as a rule I like most music, even my least favorite Genre ( rap ) has songs I like
