$20 a month or so off my subscriptions to various websites... IF I had the means (aka money) to do so I would probably actually start an Anime collection like I am Manga... but spending $100-$500 dollars if not more all at once is a bit much in my current state.

well, I bought the entire 7 BD collection for Oregairu at ¥6800 a piece, plus shipping, so....

I also bought the first series of Senki Zesshou Symphogear, and will complete my collection of Symphogear G, which will be 12 BDs in total at ¥6000 (plus shipping) apiece..

I'm willing to pay for a series if I think it's worth it.

I have been spending 40-60$ on those limited editions blu-ray/dvd combos but I don't think I would spend over 100$ that I want to spend on those legendary Dragon Boxes for DBZ. Dragon Box 2 is worth over 500$ zzzzz u.u

What is the most you are will to spend on an anime series in its entirety? I loved Madoka Magika, there are few series i have enjoyed as much as it and i went all out and got the Collectors Edition of all 3 volumes and that was around $230 for the whole series, more then i would spend on any other series. Normally i would be willing to spend $35-$40 on each volume of a 2 volume series, anything more and i cant push myself to buy it.

So whats the most you are willing to spend on an anime?

I was going to say how I'd spend anything, and I've indeed spent a lot. 80-100 is the norm for me, with various Gundam's and full length Mecha typically costing heavy cash.

But I drew my line a Madoka Magica a while back. It's simply not worth the cost. They're over pricing the series because they know it's worth it right now. Give it 2 years, and Madoka Magica should be a more even price. $100 for 12 episodes is just fine by me, I've payed 100 for the 13ish maybe Paranoia Agent.

But I'm able to watch Madoka on nearly any streaming service out there, unlike 90% of Mecha anime. Owning a physical copy of 12 episodes isn't that big a deal. For that same $230 I have just under 200 episodes of Ranma 1/2, Dragonball Z, and three seasons of Mobile Suit Gundam.

I also have multiple $100 figures, so... SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY(but nobody's getting a cent out of me I don't have to spend a cent on! Trigun was 15 bucks for the entire set, THAT'S A FREAKIN STEAL, I'MA FIND ME MORE OF THOSE!)

I know I already posted but I feel like saying...

Having read here, and in some other places about the same thing, I think what a lot of people forget when saying things from Japan, like the Anime, are too expensive is not just turning Yen into Dollars but also shipping costs. A lot of people want to pay what they pay for a Blu-Ray/DvD from their local store, and some costs I have seen are just for a movie, not a series. Go to your stores look at TV series, they tend to cost anywhere from $10-$30 more than just one movie.

So add in the fact you are getting a TV series from another country, whose pricing is different than our, changing the money from one currency to another then also adding in shipping costs (not just the flight/boat ride over but also don't forget usually there is multiple shippings as such as going across the US to your town and then more shipping of once in your town getting to your house).

So when you're talking about probably $40-$60 for a series, probably $30-40 shipping, plus exchange rates between Yen and Dollar... around $70 to $100 per series isn't really asking all that much. Obviously this is for regular shipped series, collectors editions just like collectors edition games or series here in US cost roughly double the regular.

Sorry just had to rant today.

Tough question to ask really. If the series is good then I’ll shell out the $$ to buy it on BD or DVD if that’s all they have it on. I think I spent well over $300 to get the Shakugan no Shana’s complete collection. Other older series like the Maria Whatches Over Us (Maria-sama ga Miteru) was like $60 for each of the 4 seasons boxsets. The older a series is the better your chances of finding it for less will be. The newer, and thusly more popular series, will always cost more to own for the simple fact that they are new and “HOT” items.

An interesting factoid, less than 1% of the anime\manga produced in eastern countries such as Japan, Korea & China, find its way to the Western Countries like the States. The simple reason is that there isn’t a market for it here…well at least not one large enough for them to make the effort to export it. A partial reason for this is scanlations or fanlations as they are sometimes called. This is where fan of a series take and translate the work to a different language and share it via the Internet. The creators and owners of the work see not $$ for their work in this manner. Sites like CR and Funimation which have paid subscriptions help where anime is concerned. VIZ media have manga as do a few other sites.

I’m not trying to sound all high and mighty. I used to be like many others and downloaded free anime off the web while reading translated manga as well. Did it for years before realizing that I was just hurting the industry. Now, if I can find it for sale I buy it. I have shelves of DVD\BD and manga. If it is a series that isn’t offered outside of the East, I’ll still go read it on-line or watch it. However I still watch for it to buy. I just recently managed to get Toradora on DVD. While the cost of a single DVD, compared to all sales, may not seem like a great deal, every little bit does help. Just something to think about.

Most I have spent so far on a DVD collection was eighty bucks. Average for me is about fifty to sixty. Although I love me a good thirty dollar bargain. I have yet to spend over a hundred bucks on a single item, though. Not saying I won't, but I would have to really want it and have that kind of cash to spend. Like with some of the Gundam stuff.

The most I'd ever spend on a show is $150, but it'd have to meet a bunch of requirements, like being Blu Ray, having at least 20 episodes,a show I really like, i. e. top 15, and come with some exclusive thing to justify spending all of that money.
