How do you let people know you are an Anime fan without straight up telling them?

I just carry what ever light novel I am reading. Right now people are seeing a lot of Spice and Wolf.

I have a lucky*star messenger bag I take everywhere, my phone ringtone is the op of To Love Ru & text tone is Hummingbird (deadman wonderland) laughing, and I read manga everywhere (ex: Jury duty, church, food establishments, hair salons, etc.) usually that's enough for them to ask and know, otherwise I just flat out say "I love anime" or "I'm an otaku", sometime with some pose just to make some light humor with it.

I just straight up tell people I am a fan. Easiest way to do it for me. I have been approached a couple of times when I was reading Death Note in between classes at college, but that's about it for not straight up just telling people.

That said I don't go around announcing to the world "HEY LOOK AT ME I WATCH ANIME!!!" and I doubt anyone does.

lol I just imagined someone busting into a classroom yelling that.

I get what you're saying tho. For some; straight out saying it when the chance presents itself can be the better way.

I personally don't believe it, but my friend said in her Japanese class someone did say something along those lines. Apparently he got a round of applause.

I guess other ways I show I am a fan is Anime backgrounds on my computer, tablet, and phone. But I don't really count those because I am the only one to use my computer, only partially share my tablet, and only girlfriends (or ex girlfriends) have ever looked at my phone... unless someone is staring over my shoulder... so I doubt anyone is really going to notice that way.

If the conversation ever goes there I'll just tell people straight up that it's one of the greatest forms of entertainment ever with lots of amazing and in-depth stories and characters. Doesn't matter whether it's some hot girl that I like, or some big tough looking fucker at the bar. Who cares?? If someone doesn't like it that doesn't really bother me. And if someone tries to make fun of me for it I just sarcastically make fun of myself better than they ever could and that usually tends to shut them up lol :P

Now MLP... that's my real secret shame. Saw all the memes popping up about a year and a half ago and decided to check out a couple of episodes to see why these brony "fags" were making such a big deal out of it... Big mistake, or good decision? I dunno I loved almost every ep except for the musical episodes. Now I'm looking forward to Sunday season 4 episodes of MLP almost as much as I look forward to Arpeggio of Blue Steel and Log Horizon!

(Some) video games, anime, cartoons, CGI, they're all just entertainment mediums and they all have excellent stories. It's as good as Game of Thrones, Walking Dead and as good as a lot of the fantasy and sci-fi books I read too.

Anime is just another excellent way to keep your brain firing.

I just pull out a manga book and start reading it and usually if anyone that is into that stuff is around they come out and say something.

I have anime keychains hanging off my knapsack, also have an anime decal on my computer. Most people around here still don't recognize it though.

It is widely used though in many other sub-cultural communities. It's a great way to break the ice, but could lead to misconceptions for some parts. The way that you express yourself shines bright with pure intention and makes me feel great

No doubt about, that with the right intentions, it works wonders.

Then you proceed to fanboy and I regret ever mentioning it.

I wouldn't fanboy. But playing along with your assumption that I would, then that would make you one as well. Nice to meet you.
