How do you let people know you are an Anime fan without straight up telling them?

I usually pull out manga when i'm on the bus or waiting for one. Occasionally I get people on the bus or at the stop approach me and strike a conversation. Actually this is how I met my 2 Otaku buddies.

I have some buttons and keychains on my backpack but no one really notices, but i speak random Japanese all the time, so sometimes people ask and I tell them mostly anime, so they find out like that.

I just tell them straight up, but I think a good way to do it would be to have an anime tattoo or maybe some decal on your car

Simple. My Hatsune Miku messenger bag and lanyard, my many anime shirts, Sebastian pendant, a note book with many anime drawings, Sailor Moon and Kingdom Hearts bracelet, a binder with many anime and gaming pictures in it, the Watamote wallpaper on my phone, and the Keyblade and Heartless key chains on my lanyard.

I don't really go out of my way to tell people, but it's not like I'm hiding it. My portable systems and Fairy Tail bag are sorta evident, my laptop also has a Miku sticker on it (it's a new laptop, I just recently got stuff to put on it, I have a few more to put on but some I don't know how), and every now and then I wear game/anime/manga related clothing. My portable systems even have game related cellphone straps. :3
And it's all evident as it's stuff I like. Since I have them for me anyway, if people notice them and start up conversations about their topics then that's just a bonus. o.o
(Well, so far as social anxiety can consider random conversations a bonus...)

Person 1: So what do you watch on television?
Me: I watch lots of anime.

If they give any attitude, I just hit them. Simple = )

Glad i'm not the only one.

On a more serious note, I have a couple figures on my desk at work, and a couple shirts I wear every now and then. The shirts seem to be more effective.

I like to just talk to people, and if I feel like I can bring up the subject of aminu and mangos I will just say, "So yeah, I watch anime".

Subtlety is for sycophants and products of incest.

I'm not the most confident person in the world; I can definitely understand the fear of being judged unfairly, but I have come to prefer the more direct approach of openly discussing it. I have found that vulnerability is at the core of every meaningful human experience. If you want to connect with people in a meaningful way, you have to put yourself out there. When you beat around the bush, you protect yourself from negative reactions, but end up missing out on some of those enjoyable experiences. I know this is easier said than done, but living in fear of the world rejecting you, and keeping parts of yourself secret, has a way of eating at you from the inside until you become a hollow shell.

I work with a lot of college students during the summer.Usually over the course of the summer an anime discussion will pop up excluding me because of my age and appearance. They assume I wouldn't have a clue.I let it go on for awhile and then I usually ask a question about the main character in the anime/manga being discussed. After they pick up their jaws, which are firmly affixed the floor, I remind them that looks can be very deceiving .
