Oh so many ways....

In a business environment, with executives and such, I carry around a Fate/Stay NIght coffee tumbler. Any anime fans would recognize it immediately and it HAS started a few conversations.

Sometimes I'll flash my phone protector, which is Kaoru Tanamichi from Amagami. In a sexy maid outfit.

I am not kidding on this one, keep in mind 34 working in a business environment, I carry an Armitage the 3rd metal lunchbox in to work with my briefcase for my lunch.

I'm still trying to find other creative ways to flaunt my anime otakudom without causing too much disruption.

The friends I have that don't already know, have no way of knowing. I don't have any figurines, posters or manga in my house, and I don't go around quoting or talking about anime except to the friends who share the enjoyment. And the way I dress is no give-away either. Hell even the friends who do know only know because I told them, couple of em were even surprised when I did.

It's simple becoming friends with people who have the same interest, just walk around with a manga or accessory that is anime affiliated.
Or if you see someone who is doing exactly that then walk up to them and start talking about, it isn't too difficult.

It's harder to bring up anime is your hobby/life to someone who has no interest in it whatsoever because you don't want to weird them out, so you just have to let it show in small doses, don't want to scare anyone off lol

Every now and then, I just make anime references during conversations, though they can be very subtle. For example: making a remark about wanting to give an annoying person a bead necklace and telling them to "sit." Also, when joking around I may abruptly and dramatically say, "It all started on a blustery Wednesday, or was it a Thursday...? Maybe a Sunday..." and continue on a weird story-telling tirade for a few minutes. Anyone who's familiar with the various anime that I reference should catch it, but they would fly over the heads of most people. FYI, my two examples established a connection to Inuyasha and Soul Eater.

Well I don't have an answer for that. I'm the kinda person who just tells things straight out. Either they will accept it or they won't. Their loss if they don't.

I don't know. I am not ashamed of the kind of entertainment I'm into. I just don't go on and on about it with folks who are clearly not interested in it. It's called social skills.

Thy people before have said to wear stuff with anime/manga related things on it. I however can't do that so i just put a few pictures of anime/manga on my binder and it has worked quite well

I seem to get the opposite reaction when showing off something anime related. Like I carry around a wallet with Black Rock Shooter on it, but like nobody knows of it (at least where I live) and I have some anime folders that I use for my classes at college and occasionally I wear one of my anime themed shirts. I'm not doing it to force a reaction either, but it's just like yeah I'm an anime fan and I want to show what I like just like anyone else that has a hobby. I just wonder if it actually does the opposite and make people avoid me?

I usually carry my neon genesis evangelion messanger bag at school. I wear some anime tees and alternate between my happy ( fairy tail) or umbreon hat so that lets people know I love pokemon and anime. I have a pink madoka magica wallet which I take out most of the time. I think people know by now. When school started many people came up to me saying that shirt/ bag/ wallet/ hat/ is cool. But its kind of fun meeting people this way. Just the other day a cashier at Sears complemented me for wearing my umbreon hat and fairy tail shirt that we ended up talking for quite a while

I'd probably bring it up if we run out of topics or something. Most likely , they'll have some anime merchandise and I'll point it out.

In high school my messenger bag had Ed and Al from Fullmetal Alchemist on it, so that was a big hint. People would come up to me and ask me where I got it, or they would talk about FMA, or non-anime fans would be like "ask her, she likes those Japanese cartoons!" if something anime related came up. Nowadays I just have a keychain on my lanyard, and I keep my laptop in the FMA bag, which goes with me if I'm travelling.

With people I meet, it just kind of comes up eventually.
