It could easily be a discussion on moderators but it seems that people here are too defensive of things in order for it to actually become one. Also, please do not make it seem like this list of pros and cons are mine. I simply commented with my opinion on the list that was already posted. I also did not generalize all moderators at all or at least did not intend to do so in any of my responses to this thread. If you would point out where I did then I would be happy to fix the mistake.

This is a completely irrelevant thread.

This thread is no worse than any of the other pointless threads on these forums. I see no reason why it should be treated differently simply because its topic is about moderators.

Oh. My mistake then. I just wanted to be sure since it would really be unfortunate otherwise.

I will also go ahead and point this out before I end my part of the conversation on the legitimacy of this topic; This thread here is nearly(and I say nearly since this one could be about all moderators on all forums while the other is just CR moderators.) identical in topic to this one: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-480651/cr-mods Which was allowed and even had moderators participating in. Not to mention it was ended with this quote:

wrote:

90% of this thread is way off-topic. I can't be bothered to go through all the pages and deleting all the off-topic posts so if you think this thread is necessary then start a new one.

~locked

Therefore I see no reason that this thread should be questioned in whether it is allowed or not beyond the possibility of it being a duplicate of another currently active thread. So now I end my part in this conversation. I also apologize for my part in this thread being side-tracked so much over whether or not it should even be allowed.

I assume you actually mean a different thread since it would be hard to keep any discussion going in a thread that has been locked for four years. If you can point out an active thread with this topic already though I would support this one being closed. I did not come across one in my very quick and basic search however.

And it also states: "This thread is for asking the mods mainly non-mod related questions and getting answers. Chat away!" This thread isn't really asking mods anything. Moderators could contribute to this thread if they wanted but this thread is about the pros and cons of having moderators. It would seem a bit silly to me to go and ask only mods what the pros and cons are of their existence. Some may feel that thread is the appropriate place for something like this but I don't feel that way.

Alright! so me and a friend were discussing the rights and privileges of forum moderators,we decided to think of pros and cons. A couple things came up that i thought was good brain food and so i wanted to hear others opinion.
Please leave a pro or a con about forum moderators :>

Pro: they keep spam to a minimum.

Con: having too many rules, and being too strict.

Pro: ...

Con: if a moderator gives his/her opinion on a thread many will take up the side supporting the moderator solely based on his/her position.

Pro: ...

Con: power hungry...its not fun going up against a mod who loves banning people.

Pro: ...

Con: attitude problems, we encounter saucy attitudes all the time but coming from a mod, its like you cant say anything back for fear that they will punish you in some manner as though they were your parents.

Pro: ...

Con: the air of superiority, this one bugs me, a lot, i mean just because you are on this site 24/7 does not mean that you are superior to anyone less then a moderator.

OK! so now leave some pros and cons about forum mods, Try and leave more pros, as you can see im not very good at thinking about them :> Thanks!
.

We have 13 rules, and they aren't that hard. Most of the problems are duplicate threads, and PG-13 infractions. Other than that, we really only fight the spam and the flame wars.

I see two things here that merit elaboration:

I see a necro'd thread from 2009, from what looks to be a moderator account that's been nuked.

accusing mods of being power hungry.

I'm not here to stir the pot, but explain why you think we love banning people, and list why you think we dish out bans?

Yeah and it would be about silly to bring that up on a mod topic only thread in the first place.

Yes mod xxxx
You're pro is you are nice but you're con is you abuse your powers to much......

And I know, but it is a mod thread regardless.

It is more an issue of me just having nothing better to do than it is of being serious. I also only type in a way that makes me seem more serious than I actually am in a forum setting. It all changes drastically in other settings. Too serious of a response or are you just not seeing it the same way I do?

Not just you but what you guys are on about. You're not saying anything wrong, it just really hurts to witness such passion from how committed you guys are to make a point. T_T

It isn't passion. Just what happens when I get bored. Should I invest my time in a more important thread like "Why are beautiful people hated on soo much?" or "What is your Useless Super Power?"?

Thank you Csgod0, but i think that question is best answered by a mod, this is ( at least i was hoping) a thread for non-forum moderators, really your average forum user who earns a unjust ban asks the same question that you have just asked. But i would like to reinstate that this tread was purposely created to discus the positive and negative attributes based on a user's fortune or misfortune from Strictly; forum moderators, not exclusive to CR.
