I was wondering if anyone from CR were planning on attending the upcoming Ohayocon 2014 in January ? I was looking for a few buddies to meet up with?

I haven't figured out if I want to cosplay or not. But if I do I'll be one of many people cosplaying Shingeki no Kyojin .

I'm looking to plan my first Con, and I don't live far from Columbus (a few hours north, actually, just north of the Michigan border), so I might consider. Ohayocon's site is a little ... barren ... do you have any info or thoughts for a possible first timer regarding Ohayocon?

Ohayocon is good for a first con, it was the first one I went to and I enjoyed myself. It's been growing over the last couple of years so it's not a tiny convention but it's not overwhelming either. The artist alley can be a little hit or miss but in general the dealers room and panels are pretty good and there's lots of fun cosplay so people watching is great. Another perk about Ohayocon is the location, it's right in the entertainment district so there's lots of easy parking, hotels right attached to and right next to the convention center and if you just head down High Street there are restauraunts galore.

Depending on my financial situation I might show up, just started my college classes and trying to find money for books.

To be honest, if I wasn't being paid to be here, I'd not likely go to this one. It has a cool exhibit area... but otherwise, all of the panels feel very amateur-ish, and the main guest speakers are (as always) English voice actors. The programming is heavily oriented towards anime that's popular in the US, and is dubbed. So if Naruto and DBZ are two of your favorite shows, there's lots for you here... but at the risk of sounding like a snob, I'd rather see this convention fly in one or two creatives from Japan than the eight voice actors from Texas that currently have keynote presentations.

The cosplay is decent. I'd say half or more isn't even anime-related, which is typical. No real gripe there, but it amuses me to see Thors, Jokers, and Dr. Whos wandering around.

I am reeking of anime hipster douchery at this point, so I will stop... but there it is. Take it for what it's worth.
