YO FATE/STAY NIGHT!

Naww, it's really good though, but I'd have to say something like Air. Honestly I just crawl around on my knees picking up whatever VNs that KEY drops. Recently I played a decade old one that came out of Steam (since Steam's open door policies have led to tons of VNs even though everyone only cares about the eroge aka c3ns0r3d=Failure [NEKOPARA anyone?}) called Planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~ (called Planetarian ~ dream of a little star ~ and you know, the Japanese equivalent of that, everywhere else). It's super super short but it might be the best on Steam. There's also Analogue: A Hate Story which goes into a lot of serious themes about gender/sexism and may be a little bit of a niche, but it's still really good once you throw all your skepticism away. I've never played the sequel, Hate Plus, but I hear good things about that too. Been spending a lot of time of Steam apparently, wow.

All-Time fave... then that must be...

Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Watashi no Ouji-sama!

It's weird though, somehow I haven't played any VN that was adapted into an anime. (FSN, Clannad, Higurashi etc).

Having just completed the Muv-Luv franchise, it's rather high on my list right now. Them production values is what sold me, but that story was quite an engaging time spent.

Katawa Shoujo is also rather amazing, and I would say more worth the play through. Katawa Shoujo's Non-Jaanese root's really show in the writing, and it was a huge breath of fresh air compared to all the usual stuff. For a fan/indy VN, it deserves heavy praise.

If I had to choose, my favorite VN would have to be:

Ever 17: The Out of Infinity

What I really liked about it was that you had to play through it 5 times to get the full story and the true end. I liked how I got a little piece of the story every time through. I do wish the game was a bit more available so I could suggest it to friends. Maybe one day it will get reprinted.

I was actually in the middle of looking for a quote that you've re-reminded me of!
From Valve, "Piracy is almost always a service problem"
I want to play Ever 17, I really do. I've even got a stack of cash just waiting to be taken. But it's not exactly accessible.

It's worth the $250 in my opinion. Then again, Fate Stay Night is $70 and Tony Taka's Fault!! is $90....I wouldn't blame people for being illegal, the company who made the game already made their money (Not to mention KID went out of business and the infinity series continued by different companies)

Ever17 is quite simply the best visual novel I played.

Haven't played that many yet, but one that I really enjoyed was Kara no Shojo.

It has a very dark story-line, with good art and an intriguing plot in general. I would recommend it for fans of the horror and/or mystery genres.

i have played and still playing some the following: bible black, little my maid, snow drop, yinyang x-change alternate, little witch romanesque, gibo, bazooka cafe, cosplay fetish academy, cat girl alliance, yume miru kusuri, steins;gate, animamundi, deus ex machina demonsbane, discipline, starless, yo-jin-bo, yumina the ethereal, enzai, and brave soul... so far.

there are a few i have waiting for me as i still gotta burn em to disc, i got the games through dubious means online, though i do plan to buy them eventually if i like them and have a shelf full of the stuff like in Oriemo! :P

i havent played the H-games for a long time, and was surprised to see that Peach Princess is gone and the website directed to jastusa.com, did they have a buy out or merger?

Damn I imagine Muv Luv would have been a blast if I could have gotten that damn bootleg to work, it had me like changin my locale to japan just to get that bitch to run. Then I was doin an update or somethen to my pc and that shit was in the "zip" tongue so i had to get rid of that, lol.

I'm gonna say Eden because the ending isn't really a happy one, and you know that shit is comin so when it finally arrives and it still hurt's like hell is surprising realism.

I just started getting into Visual Novels. It all started with Omega Quintet for PS4, then I tried out Sunrider for PC which I enjoyed as well.

So... i am playing Steins;Gate right now, and found out it is also an anime as well has a recent vita/ps3. the game is definitely a slow build-up, in chapter 2 right now, but it is starting to get pretty intense with the SERN conspiracy developing. i get the feeling the game is gonna get really nuts down the road! already i am pretty sure Rintaro accidently ended up on another worldline thanks to what we found out Daru did in the Prologue, i am very curious as to how things develop.

I keep seeing people recommending the anime series over the game, but i know, even though everything is all animated and pretty and stuff, the series versions of VN adaptations tend to gloss over certain important items, as well as only being able to have 1 branch of the stoyline shown, where VN's have multiple branching paths and story arcs some times. i do not want to watch the anime until clearing the game, does anyone else agree with this idea?

Well, mine is Ever 17. As far as - how hyped I was after playing a game - it was definitely Ever 17. It was within my first 5 visual novels and it was probably just before I even saw 100+ anime, (years ago, I bought my copy for $35). I admit there are horrible boring slice of life parts (not saying slice of life is necessarily bad, just how Ever 17 did it, it was), but I just didn't know much about VNs and anime, so it didn't bother me when I played through it the first time. As one of the few games that actually use the format well - it is quite good.

As for Soapstone and Steins;Gate. I watched the anime before the visual novel was localized because I basically said, "there is no hope of ever seeing this here." Then Jast partnered with Nitro+... I definitely enjoyed the anime more than the VN just because I already was spoiled from the anime. I do say it is a great adaption though, though not the greatest (I'd say ef - A Tale of Memories holds that honor, at least for me). The real reason I like the anime is because they do cut out one of the worst segments of the visual novel. I do like the visual novel game mechanics though and also a key scene the anime doesn't even have.

Won't add spoilers, but the first I hinted at involved Rai-Net, the other I won't even hint at because most that experienced both should know the huge thing missing from the anime, already.

Hmm, my favorite huh. If we're going by hours played, then Kimadori Alchemy Meister. Favorite for story is a tie between F/SN and KS.

That sounds like Katawa Shoujo to me. It's an alright little VN, I didn't mind it. Of course I didn't get the bad ending.

My favourites, have to echo someone from the beginnings of the thread that said the Zero Escape Series. Seriously those games are just a giant awesome, amazingly fun mindfuck and I'm glad that a third is finally being made. To those who don't know of the series, they're written by the guy who wrote the series Punch Line! which came out last year.

Another favourite, and I'm going to be an edgelord here, is Saya no Uta. While being really rough, I mean it is fairly early Butcher work, it's still a twisted fun little tale that I'm glad I played.
