Hanasaku Iroha.

I got a bunch of recommendations from a friend and watched the first episode of them all. I enjoy a lot of different anime shows, but this one just wasn't my style. It was pretty boring.

My friend told me to give it another shot, and so I did.

Now it's in my top 3.

It's hard to describe why. The characters got more interesting, the comedy was fairly good, but it was probably just the fact that the plot was so well made that made me love it.

I haven't gotten to watch a lot of anime in the past year or so, but I did get into one anime.

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club.

At first I thought this anime would be stupid. I mean come on, an anime about swimming? But I gave the anime a shot, and as you can guess, I ended up liking it.

I don't know what factor I like about it, but I'm glad I gave it a chance.

;) ;)

Also for mine
Definitely Log Horizon. I, as well as many others, saw the concept, and so shortly after SaO hype, figured it was just a coattail riding knockoff. Couldn't have been more wrong though, finally decided to give it a shot and I'm in love with it. DEFINITELY wasn't what I was expecting from it ^_^

Oh, also adding in SoRaNoWoTo

Expected just a K-On knockoff with trumpets and war, but it was a bit more filling than that with a good story.

Girls und Panzer.
I mean, come on. High school girls driving WWII tanks into battle for their school club? How could that possibly be good? And it's got a cast of, like, a million. How can you keep them straight?

Bodacious Space Pirates.
Teenage girl becomes a space pirate captain. Uh-huh. Bought the Blu-Rays, waiting for the movie.

This season, the big surprise was Yowapeda.
Silly-looking kid riding a bicycle. Yeah, how could that possibly be interesting and exciting and heart-warming? And it's only two days, 20 hours, 43 minutes until the next episode.

Man, I'm glad I made this thread. There's a lot of animes on here that people are listing that I strayed away from for the exact same reasons given. I think I'm going to go back to Bakuman, Fate Kalied and Log Horizon.

One Piece is one for me.. I just started back on it from episode 1 2 months ago now I'm on episode 222. I used to see it here and there back when it was on tv but I didn't really like the concept of pirates so thats why I haven't been watching it for all these years.

Magi-

Ha, yea I SAID IT. I didn't think I would like Magi, I completely misunderstood the concept and quite frankly I didnt think it would be my cup of tea. This was since about a year ago whent he first season was out. . I sat down and watched it sometime last month.

Safe to say, I got caught up to it and now anticipate the next episode.

Tsk... the title makes it sound like I can say an Anime that I thought I would like going in... but ended up hating... but the first post wants me to choose something I thought i'd hate but ended up liking!!!

Huh... well I guess for me... Gintama/SKET Dance. I put these both together because they are kind of the same thing. A lot of episodes (which I hate) and "more or less" pure comedy (which from what I have seen doesn't like to work, for me, 4 out of 5 times.)

But I ended up being wrong, I loved SKET Dance, though I felt like it ended at a bad spot or I just wanted more... and I am enjoying Gintama, though I am only slowly getting through it.

Another was Gargantia of the Verdous Planet (I am sure I butchered that spelling like no tomorrow).

I hate 99.99% of all Mecha I have ever watched... Gargantia was the first I ended up loving enough to watch its entirety and am currently preparing myself (by finishing up some Anime) to watch again.

Love Lab comes to mind for me. Initial descriptions made it sound like either a really generic comedy or a yuri series (which I personally don't care for) depending on the source, so I was a little reluctant to watch it, even though I tend to enjoy comedy series. When I saw a bunch of criticism for it coming from people who obviously hadn't even watched the first episode, I decided to watch it out of pure spite. I hadn't laughed so hard in a long time; needless to say, I was happy with my decision. But then the series took things a step further by having some drama and a fair bit of character development on top of the comedy. I ended up liking it more than I ever thought I would, even if I felt some of the drama could have been done a little better. Oh, and for the record, it wasn't a yuri series.

Yeah I've been wrong about plenty of anime. Most recently, Arpeggio of Blue Steel. Watched 1 episode and wrote it off. After hearing from a few people that it was worth another look, I got caught up and am very happy I did.
