Bakemonogatari. When I first watched it I saw there was a lot of dialogue so I dropped it. But I gave it another chance and its one of my favorites now.

Strike the Blood. I'm having mixed feelings about it now that we're 11 episodes in. It was great at first but now not so much in my eyes Very inconsistent and, well, in my opinion, unnecessary fanservice almost every episode. Little to none of the characters are memorable at all really especially when they keep killing off main antagonists (or at least that's how they portray them as at first).

Outbreak Company. I read the premise and refused to watch it. My husband always watches the first episode of the first season without reading blurbs to make his own decision and he forced me to watch the first episode after I kept telling him I didn't want to watch it. I kept trying to keep a serious face and couldn't.. it's now my surprise of the season and have been recommending it to everyone I talk to.

I think the anime I was most wrong about was Madoka Magica. Initially I thought it was another "magical girl" anime, and it turned into something like Evangelion.

Elfen Lied: I dislike horror, and I generally try to avoid depressingly dark shows like ones that deal with child abuse as this one does. Still, while trying to restrict my eyes on the "Nyuu~" moeness and uttering "There is no puppy" x 1000 times in my mind while watching it, I noticed that it had left an indelible impression of being good by its end (albeit in a weird, depressing, "assume-the-fetal-position" kind of way).

When They Cry - Higurashi: Similarly, with a dislike of horror, talk about a way to open a series. If not for the high rating on Anime News Network and the curiosity I had between the incongruity between the comedic high school hijinks and horror of the series, I might of never bothered to see such a great series through to the end. I even found the 2nd season where it strayed away from the horror to be a lot weaker.

Lucky Star: That first half of episode 1 where they talk about the correct way to eat a choco-cornet or whatever they're called was one of the... MOST PAINFUL sketches of all time in anime I have ever been subjected to! It felt like a form of psychological warfare. To be honest I watched the rest of the series not long after, but it seriously made me consider quitting and I'm glad I didn't.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Similar to Lucky Star, where I didn't wait long to watch the rest, but the disjointed order of the episodes (and of the first episode especially of being a bunny girl in a poor-quality high school movie) was a little off-putting. Once I realized the disorder was a result of "God's will," however, it was actually quite cute to do so; one of my favorites.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: For the same reasons as already mentioned, I don't much care for the magical girl genre (I watched and respected Cardcaptor Sakura, but I think I only begrudgingly liked it because it was really well done) unless it's a parody like Is This a Zombie?, or apparently, a deconstruction. I mean, the first few episodes were classic stereotypical mahou shōjo with only a few fleeting inconsistencies quickly forgotten without hindsight, resulting in a slow plowing through the episodes for me until out of nowhere "that" happens and makes my jaw hit the floor in disbelief...

Five that I almost immediately dismissed after the first episode but later went back to and loved are Tengen Toppa Gurren Legann, Canaan, Durarara!!, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and The Twelve Kingdoms.

Now I'd give all of those at least an 8 out of 10 if not higher.

Pscyo-Pass I drop it after seeing part of episode one.... though it was a sucky GITS remake. TOTALLY WRONG. Went back too it and a thrill ride of Sci-Fi lovers dreams. Can' wait for season two.

Madoka Magica (thought it was just a cute anime at first - boy, was I wrong) and Attack on Titan. Almost dropped AoT after the first episode, but glad I gave it another chance.

Fall Anime the story is really deep and the character development is amazing!

Strike Witches is one that comes to mind. I had heard about it and simply thought it was fanservice, ecchi garbage. i watched the beginning of the first episode and thought my suspicions were confirmed. Sometime later, I gave it another chance and realized that it was far more compelling than I thought it would be. Granted, there was still fanservice and what not, but the show itself was more than that and was actually pretty good.

Hanamaru Kindergarten was another. Initially, I thought it was supposed to be similar to Kodomo no Jikan. I gave up on it mid-way through the first episode. However, after reading some of the reviews here on CR, I gave it another shot and discovered that it was nothing like that - but was rather truly adorable and charming.

Finally, both Shugo Chara and Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar for the same reason - namely, that I thought they were too childish. While both are geared slightly more towards children, they have appeal for all ages. Sometimes, hearing a clear, simple, and heartfelt message can really strike your soul even if you think you've already heard it a million times. I thought these shows had nothing to offer me, but I was wrong.

When I first watched Gintama, I could not make it even 5 minutes in. Then, about 3 weeks later, I was bored and I decided I might as well give it another shot. Glad I did.
