But also take care of their businesses, health and most importantly be that person they can depend on in their time of need.True master/mistress never overlooks this.

Thanks for adding on the rest.

Actually more than 30 years. In Italy they were subjects of Opera productions by Giacomo Puccini and his " Madame Butterfly "as early as 1904.You might also recall the Seven Samurai (1954) was also a basis for the (1960) movie "The Magnificent Seven".

Like the linked article explained, Japan places a high value on quality service, and butlers / maids are considered the ultimate servants. Mix in a little moé and voila.

Everyone wants someone to pamper them and treat them like royalty really. We're lazy people by nature so of course we'll love having servants around us. Fudged up, but true.

personally have a fetish for uniformed men... it's not restricted to butlers, but also firemen, policemen etc.

I'm guessing that in anime they use butlers because it suits the story more... idk. it's like in "Black Butler", it's like a taboo relationship between master and butler... there wasn't any romance, but it's sort of implied romance-"master and servant love".

And I think people dig that. I do too.

for other people, I suppose they're into maids, nurses etc...

people loves being spoiled also: having an actual power over somebody is a guilty pleasure on it's own

Some of what I've read so far are really good reasons. Those, and maybe a fascination with western culture.

I wanted to be a butler, so that I could pretend to live a life of luxury, or at least upper middle class.

I don't! How dare someone who shares a house with me think that even for a second, they can cook better than me!

I say it just shows off this whole cute/handsome factor and plus it's connected to the British/European culture. Also, like somebody said, good service of course! It's also a fetish for some as well. That's normal because...Well, most people have a fetish for something.

Personally, I AM one of those people who obsess over those. I love how cute they can be, specially the maid costumes, kind of like the ones from Bodyline Yokoso and Taobao can be.

(My other favorite)

In the end, it's mainly surrounded on servitude and also cuteness.

I don't know. I'm just going to say if I had the chance to become Hayate or Sebastien Michaels I definitely would.

Because people are lazy and have to much money on their hands.
