Ever sit and wonder why does your least favorite/most hated anime series have so many fans? Most of you can't understand it and probably never will(or maybe you do but still stand by your opinion). You'll ask some fans why they love/like it only to get the same answer "because its badass!" or "I just like it!". Even if you do get someone who can tell you why without saying the same answer...nothing changes. The only different is how that fan explains their reason for enjoying it, rather than those other fans that don't really have a good enough reason. We'll endure a long discussion/debate going over the strengths and weaknesses of their favorite and your least favorite anime series. It will sometimes become a heated discussion but other times it won't. Overrated or underrated the anime series will always leave some people wondering "why do they enjoy it so much?/I don't get it". At the end of the day the most important thing is both fans enjoy anime. We can argue over which series is better and why is the fanbase so large but overall we love anime. We're all entitled to our personal/honest opinion regardless of how the other people feel about it. Yet its the same way for people that hate a series too and they'll constantly question "why do people hate this series so much?". Most important of all beside "we all enjoy anime" is no series is ever perfect as you think it is nor terrible to simply put every show can not please every one.

Three examples:

So tell me your personal thoughts on this/explain in great detail.
Let me know if a thread like this one exist.
Thanks a bunches.

I think I ramble on a bit there...sorry.

agreed. I'm not very appreciative of people who think there's something wrong with me or my tastes just because I don't like AoT.

I enjoy Shingeki no Kyojin and the series do honestly have its flaws. There isn't really any reason for me to hate you for not liking SnK because you can love or hate whatever you want. I respect your opinion.

I don't get why so many people get their panties in a bind over fanservice it's not like it is something new there has been fanservice in anime since the 60's it's always been there it will always be there.

I don't like Naruto or Sword Art Online very much, and Attack on Titan is okay, but it's not amazing. For all three of these, I can explain my opinion of each and why I like and dislike certain parts of it. I will never dislike someone simply because they have a difference of opinion, but I may go as far to lose all respect for, or dislike a person who passionately shows their opinion without backing it with anything. For example, many people that I've met dislike/criticize anime without having seen a single episode of it. That is flat-out annoying. It's not just annoying to because it's on a subject of something that I love, but I'll feel the same way to any sort of close-mindedness. As for your examples, I see far too much of both 1 and 3. Unfortunately, I've hardly ever found that people will rationally discuss their opinions while backing them with evidence, but maybe that's just my stroke of luck. Sometimes, I'll find that people will watch a decent show 3 episodes in and think it's enough to judge the entire show, which is annoying, but I understand. I've never watched an anime without finishing it, but if the first 3 episodes give off the wrong vibe, then I understand why people may drop it. Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai is a good example for this season. The first 3-4 episodes were basically the same thing over and over, but as of now, the series has a decent plot and some intensity into it.

Some shows like to go overboard with using fanservice but some shows know how to do it properly. Fanservice is not bad at all unless its done well and not overly exaggerated. I wouldn't mind watching an anime series with fanservice if it were done right and/or have a little amount.

Also there are borderline hentai anime series that should just be hentai though I'll still enjoy it.

Just my opinion though.

I think a large problem is that so few people can have a proper discussion about likes and dislikes anymore. It almost always ends up being a heated argument with no compromises at all.

Partially I think that is the case because of the anonymity of the internet and a little bit because people feel the need to vent their opinion about everything. I understand that it's okay to criticize things, but there is way to go about doing so other than the examples provided. But there is also a way to respond to those who can't communicate in a civilized manner. Vicious cycle right there...

At the end of the day, all anime has flaws. A lot of people seem to forget that when they go to bash on the anime they hate and list off a long line of things. Yeah, X anime wasn't perfect or great, but have a think first... People like it because of the things it did right. Stop focusing on the negatives and think about the positives. Don't see the positives? That's cool, but why do you have the point out every negative to everyone else?

That thread does appear to have lot of the "other" end though. One post is "Yuri is wonderful, go home you're drunk.". Person is intoxicated for not liking something. Is a pretty good example of my first couple lines.

I agree with this. It truly is annoying both 1 and 3. I use to watch Naruto and yes I enjoyed the good times of it but I decided to move on. I watched SAO and didn't hate nor dislike it either only because I was a meh feeling. Shingeki no Kyojin is wonderful but has its flaws too. I find it insane how you can say something so cruel because somebody has a difference in opinion. Number # 1 is ridiculous only because the fandom is given a bad reputation while #3 just reveals the cruel idiots out there. Still its their opinion but so is everyone else.

I wish #2 was seen more often.

A good debate ends with both parties enlightened on the opinion of the other while still supporting their original opinion. Debates are too confined a scenario to expect anyone to change their opinion on something - that's something they should do on their own time, when they sit down and really think about what they've absorbed. I think the second scenario here is pretty much the ideal result.

As for me, I will never understand the appeal of anime with a single, super-powerful protagonist. I can't invest that much time into one character, especially when there are other (often more interesting) characters around being completely ignored by the writer(s). This sort of anime always makes me feel like I'm watching the antics of a Mary Sue, and I often end up rooting for the villain.

On the other side of the coin, I don't understand how people could not enjoy anime with intricate plots and heavy character development. Drama is my genre of choice, followed closely by mystery and romance. I don't see how people can prefer watching a physical fight over a verbal one, or be bored by heavily emotional scenes.

I tend to not dwell on why I like/love or dislike/hate a series because no matter what I think I always end up ruining the series weather it was good or bad.

I don't necessarily dislike/hate anime or manga. I have a hard time doing a marathon of a 12 epi anime. I usually break them down in increments of 6 no matter how long they are. This is where I see if I am enjoying the series or not because if I like the series I will continue watching it, however if i'm not enjoying it as much I won't continue it the next day. Maybe I'll come back and Watch it later but at that time I do not know.

I also have a huge open mind about the different genres, a good example would be the harems. Some harems are much better and much more enjoyable than others but that doesn't mean if it's full fledged fanservice that i'm going to drop it because it is expected in a harem.

EDIT: I look at it like this, though it is simplistic it works and makes me enjoy majority of anime

1) Did I enjoy the series? (YES) or (NO) Not why just a simple yes or no

2) Will I watch it again? (YES) or (MAYBE) Obviously if I didn't enjoy the series as much I might come back and watch it again but not in the near future.

3) Did I like the characters? (YES) or (NO)

4) Did I like the Story? (YES) or (NO)

Like I said before I do not go into details cause it just ruins the series for me.
