My daughter likes this show and will be excited, but the swimsuits make me nervous. Watching the last bit of SAO with a 12 year old was more than a little awkward. I hope that there isn't an evil octopus or something similar to "develop the plot." I have a feeling I should screen this in advance.

Yeah, that would be awkward. I was thinking same thing with the actions the villain had. Seemed like such a forcex low brow hate compared to the emotions created in the first half. I understand if it was part of the novel, but surely it could have been more in tone with rest of the show. Mind you, different culture so it could be viewed differently over there. Shrug.

uh you do know that not every PG anime show is appropiate for 12 year olds this is anime we are talking about, not animation shows. That's why the second part of the show introduced fanservice in it because it is from japan not america.

I had watched 10 episodes before I decided it was OK for her to watch it. She has watched Ranma and such, and there hasn't been a problem. Fanservice is one thing, the beginnings of rape is another matter. I don't put much faith in ratings anyway, I was judging it by the tone of the show. Since I don't believe that boobs are inherently dangerous like most of the US, I find ratings tend to be a bit warped.

Same thing. For me it is less about the what and more the how. I myself dont even check ratings but judge entirely on the entire package. That is my point for previous statement. I dont know how novel presents, but there are better and more fitting ways to present the lust portion than with the lewd fondlings. To tangent, how AoT presents it's violence. There is blood death and dismemberment, but does so without the excess gore that many others try to use for same impact. Result is has a stronger impact plus seems to draw the viewer in more. I call this forced emotion where they exaderate it beyond the intended message and into being dissasociative cheese.

For myself, exaderated fan service is same thing. I like many shows that have fan service, but when it is to the extent of being the core of the show, i will lose interest. In fact, shows with fan service covers I rarely even give a second glance anymore. Much like was said above, the trailer opening with more swimsuits than Sword Art makes me have reservations.

I don't really mind swimsuits if they do it right and don't put to much fanservice in it because Iv'e seen shows that have a swimsuit episodes and they don't go too overboard with it. I didn't really mind what happened in episode 24 because they didn't really show anything per say it was implied mostly. Honestly I am just watching this Extra Edition because I am hoping that they will announce a season 2 for the show

I'm fairly excited for a possible season 2, and by possible I mean it's going to happen let's face it. My only concern is that while I did like SAO for the most part, I'm afraid that GGO will simply ignore Asuna all together and she'll have no significance in the series.
(For the record I don't know anything about the series outside of the anime)

I believe Asuna only appears a few brief times in the novels during the GGO arc. So yeah she will probably not get that much screentime if there is gonna be a 2nd season. unless they put in some anime only stuff of course.

EDIT: i dont think this is a spoiler.... im not really sure

Someone has put some English translations onto the trailer:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-12-20/sword-art-online/extra-edition-ad-subtitled-in-english

Find it kinda odd that they put Sugu's voice in where Liz is speaking.

If they follow the light novels, then they wont ignore Asuna, she actually plays a key role in GGO. In the spoiler box will describe what should happen if the anime follows the light novels and how Asuna isn't forgotten. DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT SEASON 2 (If their is one?) TO BE SPOILED! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
