Sorry about the long hiatus! I did back to back cons which didn't leave me much free time with all the prepping I was up to, then I had to get a biopsy done, & life just keeps going... anyways, enough about me!

Thank you Sir_jamesalot & Rogue-Eaglet for jumping into help! You are part of what makes cosplay so great; people helping each other :)

Allie_cat418 were James & Rogue's instructions helpful? Or do you have any more questions?

luna45 The razr would work great! Depending on what you're willing to do you could either paint the phone to match with a lacquer (nail polish would be great), or you could make a removeable cover. If you want to do the cover, let me know & I can sketch out a design for you :)

I thought I'd give a update, I've gotten the head halfway done, I've given him abit of my own style cause I find it hard to copy a style exactly when it comes to sculpting foam and furring and whatnot, still got abit to go, my outfit should be arriving next month and should I fire an email to the site that's doing it to check and see if everything's okay? Also eyes are hard haha

Lol, no, I totally get it! It's easy for cosplay to become overwhelming >.< One strategy for battling that is to decide when you're going to work on your cosplay & when you're going to take a break,

ie: "I'm going to work on section A of my cosplay from 1-2:30, then from 230-3 I'm going to take a break, watch one episode of anime & have a snack, then 3-4:30 work on section B"

Sticking to guidelines you set out for yourself is the best way to prevent what many cosplayers term "Pre-con stress!". I know it can be hard to stop when you're on a roll, but think of it as a sanity break & if you don't get a particular segment done in the time you've alloted for it, BE OKAY WITH IT, and plan another time to work on it again later. Taking breaks & keeping what you're working on fresh is key to not having a total meltdown

I see what you mean, ive had days where I can get soooo much done, like steam roll it. Its also helpful if you get stuck on something you just leave it for abit and come back to it with a fresh mindset. also im being a derp.

The most essential element of cosplay is that you enjoy what you're doing :)

People cosplay for many different reasons; personally I'm in it for the craftsmanship because I enjoy the challenge of "Okay, so how do I take this fictional 2-D idea and make it into a tangible 3-D object/character?"

One of my best cosplay friends can't sew to save his life, so he buys all his cosplays because he loves the characters so much he enjoys the roleplaying & embodying the character.

And I know tons of people who cosplay not because they're so into a character or crafting, but just because they want to show other people "Hey, I really love this fandom" in hopes that it draws other people who love the same fandom so they can have someone to talk with who understands.

Sadly, yes there are cosplayers who are in it for the same reason I am (the craftsmanship), and they do tend to get an elitist mentality about cosplay, ie "Anybody can wear a cosplay, but only talented people can make them". I can see how that happens; you get so excited that people want to take your photo, that you feel proud of yourself because you've made something so well that somebody else appreciates it enough to want to take their own personal memento of your work. And that pride can turn into haughtiness if you don't keep it in check. Which ends up with a cosplayer turning into an elitist jerk.

So I do my best to keep myself grounded by remembering that I do this hobby because it's fun; not because I'm "better than other people".

If you buy your cosplays, don't ever feel ashamed; hopefully you'll meet lots of other cool people who are in the same fandom and you'll have tons of fun. But if you ever encounter an elitist jerk, just let their words roll off your back - don't let them steal your happiness.

"is anything here made with tangerines!?!?"

so update time! I'm finished! I had ordered the kimono from FM anime but the rest I made myself, including the shoes, I took the liberty to making a pair of black Geta. Took him to anthrocon this year and I was sad only 3 people knew who he was! I was even asked if I was a digimon! I'm sure if I wore him to an anime convention it would be recognized a lot more.

I was gonna cosplay as Keima fromTWGOK but I am uncertain about the school logo(yellow pin-thingy) on his red blazer. Also I couldn't find what the name of the tie that he wears(the one that looks like a napkin <.<) any help would be appreciated!

Ps. I prefer kind of self-made-ish my cosplay. I don't want to buy the set off a website >.< cause I feel like I can save more money this way and it'll be more fun too! ><

I've never cosplayed before but I want to try it out, and the character I choose was Death Gun from SAO II. The costume seems simple enough to make, I'm just wondering, for the mask would it be easier to make it out of eva foam or out of an oven bake clay? I've never worked with eva before but i have worked with clay (just not making a mask). Is there another material I'm overlooking? Any useful information would be greatly appreciated. oh and i have like 2 months to work on it so time is not a big issue.

First of all, wow FeralCatteneo, that turned out really well! That would've taken a lot of patience and time to make, well done

marinewrestler, I've seen a few masks made out of oven-baked clay that turned out really awesomely (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XzRhYGhPplo).. If you have a vision, anything is possible!

I've cosplayed twice now, both times as Kiki (from Kiki's Delivery Service, <3 that movie!).. I bought the dress, head bow & bag from a website, (also bought a wig & shoes), then made my broom & radio.. I can say that as a first time cosplayer, buying the main outfit and making just a couple of smaller props was a great way to get into cosplaying.. And it was so much fun! Walking around the cons having people shouting/whispering "Kiki!" was a great feeling!

This time I've gone in a completely different direction and making my whole outfit.. I'm trying to do a Steampunk Horo (Spice & Wolf).. I've gone thrift store hunting & found some new favourite stores where all my monies will be going! hehe..

With all that said, I have a question (or 2)... Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do with my hair & makeup? I don't know if I want to make the ears traditional (so that I can use them as a non-steampunk Horo), or make them more mechanical looking.. And Horo's makeup is super simple, so I don't know if I should dirty it up with the soot around goggles, add a mask, etc.. And the hair; up or down??

I'm open to all suggestions Thanks in advance!
