Haha I actually would deny the general nature of your statement. Up to the end of the second season, SnS was easily on pace to be my favorite anime of all time. Easily. But you have to land the plane, and the third season as a whole (which I count as the ending haha) didn't do that.

That's partially the trouble. Shakugan no Shana has an incredible start. But, the story quickly gets bogged down in the sub-par romance (and later on, the love triangle) and the antagonists simply act as cannon fodder to give Shana her sub-plot.

After slogging through the second season, I was thoroughly disappointed by the third.

By the time SnS is half-way into SnS 2nd, the antagonists are simply boring. Considering how impressive they look and how unique they were, it's kind of sad how throwaway they became. They just weren't developed enough in SnS.

Shigurui: Death Frenzy

Such a great first episode. To satisfy the whims of an immoral Diamyo, the final showdown between a blind samurai and his rival, a samurai with one arm is staged. Just as the epic duel is about to start we are thrust into a flashback for the rest of the season to learn how they became what they are.

Agree with this 100%

This anime had such a good premise but the pacing was absolutely awful in terms of being WAY to fast

The worst drop(in everything) that I ever had was Total Eclipse. First two episodes were like Attack on Titan in the violence and pure destruction. Not to mention you wanted to know how humanity was going to survive...... then it went shit romance plot on us and forgot its epic start. The ending few episodes were pretty good but that was the WORSE DROP IN QUALITY I HAVE EVER SEEN. I jump a few episodes in the middle for how bad some of the filler was. When it was good IT WAS GOOD. but when it was bad IT WAS VERY BAD.

Blast of the tempest

First half was beautiful... Then it slowly became one of those animes where it tries to be deep but it couldn't achieve that so it ended up being completely out of flow with the first half of the story; in other words, it became boring and you're suddenly being forced to watch a shoujo component in which one of the heroine tries to suppress her feelings for another teenager.

Honestly, I'd say S3 of Shana was my favorite lol. Yes S3, not S2, not S1, S3.

The reason is S3 took it to where no other anime takes it. S3 made the 'Good Guys' look like total assholes, and that is rare in anime. S1 and S2 were kind of typical Chuu-ni Romance stuff with tsunderes and everything. Then in S3 you have Yuuji joining the 'bad guys' of his own free will in an attempt to fix everything, and even though he had a good plan, the flame hazes are like no DEATH! DEATH! DEATH!!! WHASJIIVSIHRGISENFINAINEIFNASIW!!!! So you have Shana and everyone else trying to stop the 'bad guys' from basically committing voluntary exile which would solve everything, while Yuuji is trying to get these guys to exile themselves to solve everything.

I found S3 of Shana to be very relatable, because much like Yuuji, I often find myself surrounded by idiots.

On another note :

Anything based on an Oh Great! manga, sucks with endings. He is a wonderful artist, but he does not know how to carry a story, he starts to get like really weird and juvenile with his stuff the longer he works on it. Like when he has a good idea, I am like, Oh I know the perfect way this could be carried out, and he just goes the crappiest route, completely ruining the idea. He seriously needs a better editor to keep him from doing that crap.

As far as I remember:

Kotoura-san
La storia della Arcana Famiglia
Day Break Illusion
SAO (I like SAO, but gotta say the second half was bad).

Really no one is going to say Neon Genesis Evangelion? (just going on the tv show ignoring all the movies)

you can tell they ran out of money at the end. It started so strong then became a monster of the week ending with a ending that is mind numbing crappy

Gantz

The manga was great and the ending was both epic and intense for most parts.
The anime wasn't too bad and it followed the manga at the start, then came the fillers and the mediocre ending. The last arc left many things unexplained.

Kotoura-san made it seem like something else then over the series degraded itself from that... I still liked it though... just wasn't what I thought it was going to be.

SAO, though I had rose-tinted glasses on when watching it the first time since it was only like my 4th series I ever watched from beginning to end when I started watching Anime last year so when I first watched it I thought it was a masterpiece, went back to watch it a couple months back, after hundreds of shows at least since the first time... and man did it just degrade bad after the first few episodes.

Galileo Sisters started strong for me, but wore off around episode 6 or 7... I need to catch up but I don't give it hope really.

Blue Exorcist started off as a great series for me... I was even alright with the whole going to school part... after that though it was a bit meh...

The only anime that comes to my mind with that description is Code Geass R2: Loved R1 and the first few episodes of R2 and then episode 8 of R2 happened and then it all went horribly wrong from the absurd plot twists to Suzaku's blatant hypocrisy and character derailment to Ohgi's actions to Nina... being Nina.

Hate....

To a lesser extent Hellsing Ultimate, it's still great don't get me wrong but a certain characters face-heel turn just felt like an asspull to me. Do they go into more detail of "his" betrayal in the manga?
