Ever seen that anime that had a great pilot episode (or first few episodes), but just couldn't maintain your prior level of interest for the rest of the trip?

What are some examples that you can think of?

Without even reading any post in this thread, I can answer this SO easily

SWORD ART ONLINE

1st 2 episodes were great, but then turned to a pile of doggie-doo!

Couldn't agree with you more. That show could have been a classic if it'd kept the feel of the first two episodes, so it was heartbreaking to see it nosedive into such typical cliche ridden dreck with some half-assed harem elements thrown in. Unfortunately, the show does have enough elements in it to rally people to its defense. It's not a horrible show, but its wasted potential makes its glaring flaws impossible to ignore in my case.

Watamote is one for me. I really looked forward to it and watched the first few episodes, but I just wasn't a fan of the type of comedy being used.

Thankfully, Watamote does redeem its-self in a positive manner near the end. It is unfortunate though that you have to deal with enough of her poor choices, misunderstandings, and embarrassing situations to make you feel the way she feels before someone shows up to give her hope.

Before that, it almost feels like Tomoko won't develop as a character or learn to handle her situation better. But, that's part of the love, I guess. Since nobody wants to see her in these situations

Easy, Ao no Exorcist...

God Can't agree more so much wasted material, man just pissed me off. The only anime that succeed in making me as angry was Soul Eater and the whole punch of freindship.

Yes, Ao no Exorcist was a disappointment. We don't see eye to eye on Soul Eater, but it's whatever lol
The fact that it didn't end in some generic shounen Deus ex Machina way was brilliant to me. Also, punch of "courage"...you know an important theme that was shown throughout the entire show....

99% of Shounen anime have Deus Ex Machina powers, no exceptions.

Most recently was Attack on Titan. I got to the recap episode and decided to call it quits.

Yea, i mean, i wouldn't say 99% but definitely a majority have them. All i was getting at was at least Maka didn't find a way to "overpower" the Kishin in some miraculous fashion, but instead used a constant theme of the show to defeat him.

The worst drop(in everything) that I ever had was Total Eclipse. First two episodes were like Attack on Titan in the violence and pure destruction. Not to mention you wanted to know how humanity was going to survive...... then it went shit romance plot on us and forgot its epic start. The ending few episodes were pretty good but that was the WORSE DROP IN QUALITY I HAVE EVER SEEN. I jump a few episodes in the middle for how bad some of the filler was. When it was good IT WAS GOOD. but when it was bad IT WAS VERY BAD.

Funny story about that...
Muv-luv total eclipse was created as an original anime just to advertise the volks toy series.
After 2-4 episodes the original director was replaced going from.. what was essentially looking like a good representation of the muv-luv series to an absolute disaster!

Budget problems were spotted everywhere, ships and tanks looked like cardboard box models the alien force beta was over sized and underwhelming (this is a large understatement), the damn tsfs (robots) consumed fuel like it was a freaking frat party and hovered around like they were armored troopers (votoms) among a list of other embarrassing budget problems. Still.. it was alright for a mecha anime but an absolute joke and a slap in the face for muv-luv fans.

The cut scenes hell.. just the regular scenes in general in the muv-luv visual novel trilogy out does everything and anything in the TE anime.
But i will stress the vn trilogy is galaxies different featuring surprises such as parallel worlds among other things and the genre shifts are unlike anything you've ever seen, if you're a mecha fan or a starship troopers fan i consider it a must play.

And if you didn't know i suggest you seek out the original article for the reason why the ending for shingeki no kyojin was changed.
It was looking a lot like muv-luv, it's what inspired Isayama Hajime after all.

Something for all of us to look forward to however i believe an announcement will be revealed what muv-luv anime age is planning and who they're partnering with this month. It's stated to be an original on moonphase meaning, it's not TE.
Giving the outstanding quality of the vns i have no doubt their next animation reveal will blow TE out of the water.

No.. it's 99%. Otherwise, the protagonists wouldn't live very long.

Comedies and romances also have absurd Deus ex Machina powers.

oh my gawd. thank you.

anyway, jormungand is probably the only other one i could think up of at the moment. if you watched it, you would probably expect the series to end in an action packed BANG, but it just ended so lazily.

Adding my sentiments to the pile here. Season 1 of Oreimo is great, and then it all comes crashing down like the Hindenburg.

....

I feel the urge to reply to the mentions of School Days here, since I am playing the VN and know the "secret" to why the anime ends the way it does, but this is not the topic for that.
