Oh man, when I lived in the Philippines I remember seeing the news on January 1 every year with reports of people losing their limbs, fingers, etc. because of those fireworks

Yes and wohhh that was a very strong earthquake even though its just 10 second. I was reviewing in my bed then my bed started shaking, I thought I was dreaming then my friends started calling me and ask if I'm safe.

I don't celebrate the new year. It's just boring for me. I don't really care about Christmas too much aside from all the extra income from tips and gifts that I get. If it weren't for that I would just ignore it completely.

For me, Christmas. Family get-togethers, food, and gifts. Lot's of happy memories. This year, my family's Christmas will be spent at a nursing home, spending time with my Uncle Dave's recuperating mother. Meanwhile, my New Years are uneventful, aside from trying to calm down dogs that get spooked from other people's fireworks. Not fun, especially since they're large enough to send me flying if they freak during a walk. Actually, about four years ago, that's how my mom threw out her back and permanently damaged a few spinal disks in her lower back. She's not paralyzed or anything, but muscle relaxers, pain meds, and chiropractic visits are now a regularity. Living with the kind of dogs that I do, I don't care much for fireworks any more. I'm angered when people nearby set them off when I'm trying to walk the pooches, especially when they can clearly see what I'm doing and how much they're distressing them. But they don't care that two large greyhounds are trying to take off and can easily drag my tiny younger sister or I across the pavement. Some even laugh.

Xmas. Imagine the doctor specifically 11th aka matt, then that's me at xmas! Funny really when i think about it. Most people compare me to scrooge, cos I believe its down to the fact I always see a negative side to everything. I know it's years of betrayals and loneliness that has made me appear this way & to doubt all things.

Yet xmas comes & i'm as excited as any child, probably more so cos I go the extra mile to spread the magic. I sometimes find it hard to find the spirit, when there seems to be so little around. Yet some act of kindness instantly brings me right as rain.

New years is always a fun time, but it just doesn't wow me as it used to. I stay up midnight a few nights a week, so nothing new. I don't drink alcohol, never found one I've enjoyed. As for resolutions, only 1 has ever been achieved, proud it's 2 years going on 3 now.

Well, in Soviet Russia, Christmas celebrates you. No, actually in Soviet Russia nobody celebrated Christmas, so now we exchange gifts and all that stuff on New Years. So, it's pretty much the same as Christmas, we're just celebrating the new year instead of Jesus, which is more meaningful to me anyways, since I'm not a Christian. I do love American Christmas a lot more than American New Year, though. I love all of the lights and evergreens. But it will never come close to celebrating New Years in Russia. I will always have fond memories of my family's crazy drunken parties and the beautiful fireworks over Moscow. It's really something else.
