Ep. 3

Aoba and Hina are reunited, as enemies. And now, things have become really complicated for Aoba. Pretty much, this was going to happen sooner rather than later seeing how Aoba wouldn't do anything to hurt Hina, but fate had other ideas. So far, this show has been pretty bland, but I think I will stick with this for one more episode to see if there is anything outside the box that will keep my interest.

Cliche and very Gundamish, but nonetheless I love it. I am guessing he eventually makes Hina turn traitor which pisses Bizon off and then everything happens all over again in a time loop lol.

Definitely enjoying this more than I did Valvrave, on par with Majestic Prince, but less than the initial episodes of Gargantua.

I guess Sunrise loves the Gundam formula of a small "but overwhelmingly powerful" strike team chasing a prototype battleship with prototype combat robots. Of course, with the member of the chasing team getting chopped one by one from the technologically advanced running team. (PAAAAASSOOOOO...I don't even know what you look like!!!!)
I haven't seen any recycled engineering bay explosions yet, so a plus.

Since one of the character clearly states that the mech is being continuously modified, I guess I will be expected power-up equipments between episode 6 and 8. Before then, I guess I am counting on the captain to make some good decisions to avoid bad endings.

I liked MJP a lot better in terms of rather unrealistic and over-the-top characters, but as of now, the quality passes for another week. The question I have now is if Hina completely disappeared from Aoba's future when she decided to save him in the past. If that's the case, it is kinda sad. (Of course, the concept of time travel is still to be speculated in this universe)

Inb4 they become friends again and possibly lovers. I wonder how that will happen though. In fact, the current Hina in their timeline doesn't have any memories of Aoba right?

She does retain her skills as a pilot though. Also, I noticed there are some physical consequences for forced decoupling. I wonder how many times it takes for them to take a permanent damage. Surprisingly enough though, I find the battles of this episode/show to be quite noticeable.

Another love interest?

I am an EVS member and it was up right on time at 10pm last night. As stated above, like Crunchyroll free users have to wait a week now. This was always the case for Buddy Complex and is now the case for all their shows except One Piece and Toriko, which they share with Crunchyroll.

And here I was so sure going in that I'd be dropping this after the third ep, because there wasn't anything they could possibly do in a mecha to generate interest in any character development. Started with 42 shows this season and still have that many...

Episode 2

Watching on Hulu, so I think I'm a week behind.

This show is so shiny and mindlessly exciting. Other than fighting and battle tension, there's not a lot going on to keep my brain going. Doubt it'll get into my top 10, but I also don't think I'll drop it unless it suddenly gets really bad.

I can't tell if Dio was the guy who was trying to kill Aoba in the first episode or if it was the captain of the enemy army.

I already hate Aoba, but whatever.

OK, let's call this series what it is.

Buddy Complex is what happens when Sunrise decides to give up the charade and fully embrace the HoYay Mecha Anime genre. Gundam Wing/Seed/00? Code Geass? Valvrave? Those were just pups. Now we're gonna see the full realization of Sunrise being honest.

So what we essentially have here is a retelling of Gundam Seed's original story, but with Kira and Athrun on the same side, with waaaaaaaaaaaay too many BL overtones and signs to ignore. I mean, ignoring the whole Coupling system (PROPOSAL! CONNECTIVE DIO! ACCEPTION! KISSIFICATION!!! AND FOR THE FINAL BLOW... COOOOOOOOPULATION!!!), you have a fairly clean art style that fujoshis go gaga for, and have a male cast that consists almost exclusively of people known for BL drama CD's. I mean, the "Emperor of BL" Toshiyuki Morikawa is your main villain. The rest of the record speaks for itself.

That being said, I don't mind turning my brain off for 24 minutes to watch this show. The ED theme by Choucho's also pretty good... I almost didn't recognize it was her singing, since she usually uses a higher pitch/tone for singing anime songs.

I really like the show for exactly the reason you brought up. It brings me back to those days of watching Gundam Seed/Wing/00. Code Geass and Valvrave don't fit the pattern because they try too hard to be controversial. But what I am talking about is that romance / military drama that we got with the Gundam and Macross series of yesterday. I loved it then, and I love it now. Also I am curious to see how Aoba manages to make Hina defect.

The one problem I have is though is that the first episode essentially sets up for a time paradox though:
E1: Hina went back to the past to save Aoba from Bizon because Aoba told her Bizon would go to the past to try to kill him.
S1: This means that there would have had to have been an Aoba (lets call him Aoba0) that traveled to the future before the current Aoba.

E2: Aoba0 knew that Bizon would travel to the past to try to kill Aoba.
S2: This means that Aoba0 must have experienced the same thing as Aoba did.

E3: Aoba0 had the same experience that Aoba did.
S3: This means that there must have been an Aoba-1, Aoba-2, ..., Aoba-∞

This insinuates that unless there is some stupid plot device that comes into place, which it will, that Aoba must eventually 1. Convince Hina to switch sides. 2. Piss off Bizon 3. Witness Bizon travel to the past 4. Tell Hina to travel to the past 5. repeat the loop over again for eternity.

Thank you, you just made me another fan of this anime!!! and I haven't even watched it lol but of course, after reading your post above, I will watch it and if it is exactly as you said it is, then I'm the biggest fan of this show right now.

this made my day.

i was kinda 50/50 dropping it after watching the first episode. but i watched the next two and it'll stay on my watch list . . . for now. wasn't entirely surprised to see Hina pop up again, just on the other side.

Episode 4

Episode felt slow but I'm pretty sure that Mayuka girl has a thing for Aoba. Anyways, I'm wondering about Dio's past/back story soon and waht his family is like so hopefully that will be shed to light soon.

Action was meh this episode, didn't even screen shot anything decent or worth noting.
