Metropolis was excellent but interesting to note its based on a manga from 1949 by Tezuka based on the 1927 silent film thats probably older than most of your grandparents.

Seen the silent film, If going to watch, has to be the TCM version. After WW2, the original reels for the silent version were destroyed. When films were made at the time, they had multiple cameras record and then different studios would edit for their tastes for where they were showing. Original Metropolis was extremely long, so many studios would cut out over half of it to fit the standard film length of the time. It wasnt until just recently where an almost complete version was discovered in Argentina that they were able to mostly complete the film in it's entirety.

Haven't ever looked up the Manga though. Is one of those I will get around to it and never do things....

Even though I posted what I know I still have yet to see the silent film version. Thanks for the good info. I will look to see if I can find the TCM version in 2014!

Here is the full writeup on the history of the movie

I have seen two versions of it on sale. The first is the 80's redone, with color added and new music etc. If you want to see it in original form, gotta find the 2010 release. I said Turner Classic Movies since they are the ones who debuted to TV the documentary of the film and the film itself. Sorry if that causes confusion. I get classic movies through TCM, even though they are other studios.

Ok here's my thoughts:

-Needs more Original Anime too many adaptations from other source material (granted that's like asking cows to fly but whatever)

-When adapting a LN / Manga adaptation, quit rushing through the story, The work shouldn't need to be rushed through or skip whole sections of it just because you want to end the show on some climatic battle because you don't think fans will stick around for a S2, which means you didn't have faith in what you were adapting in the 1st place.
