Wake Up, Girls! Anticipation & Discussion
Posted 1/13/14
Just finished watching the movie the principle was such a b-i-t-c-h Matsuda and the girls, taking their money fund without talking to them first. Such a mean principle/producer. Anyway, I thought the movie was flawless and cute, with the girls' audition and Mayu's past Idol group. I hope to see more interaction with the girls and Matsuda in the series he is so loyal and kind with them.

I give Wake Up, Girls! Shichi-nin no Idol a 10/10.

On to something else... anyone has a favourite idol yet?
I'm supporting Kaya. Oldest and probably the most mature of the lot (and legal too... )

I'm with you on this. She won me over when she threw the boots at her old boss.

Episode 2

I had to skim some parts of this episode especially the first half. Seriously though, that Sudo guy is an ass with his perverse way of signing the idols.

Looking forward to their TV show though, for Wake Up, Girls that is.

Ep 2

One step away from turning into a horrible forced hentai at the spa there. Bleh.

The problem is with Matsuda. He's a newbie so he has no freakin confidence at the job. When the going got tough and Suda showed up, Matsuda jumped at the offer because he instantly believes every one who says they'll help him (this happens again when the president shows up and "helps" them again. All previous hate against her for taking their money and bailing? Forgiven because hey, she's helping us again so she can't possibly pull the same stunt again). Obviously since he's saying he'll help, he must be a good person even though I have not done any background research on him.
Incompetent or naive. You take your pick as to what he most is.

On the other hand, I can understand that this is more of a realistic take on the idol business where there are people that do take advantage of these girls. But that doesn't really excuse Matsuda's behavior and lack of action due to his own low confidence.

...you don't say?

I honestly thought he knew what he was doing throughout the first half, Well, I guess we can be semi glad she's back until Matsuda get a handle of the ball. I look forward to the next episode

Man I have never been so conflicted by fanservice. On one hand, the Wake Up, Girls! rocked those swimsuits. On the other hand that entire sequence just oozed massive amounts of bad creepy vibes. It hit the boiling point for me when that drunk guy felt up Kaya's ass. It clearly took all of her strength not to deck the guy. It got too much for me when they started playing King's Game(hell when that guy announced they would be playing that game I had to pause the episode as I felt things were going to go into massively uncomfortable territory). I was hoping Miyu would like punch, slap, or even headbutt that creepy guy who tried to kiss her. The push she did sufficed, but I wanted setting stronger.

The president returns after blowing all their money gambling, but did some good kicking the crap out of Sudo and got them a recurring gig on a local news station.

This episode also boosted Miyu's stock with me. She hasn't overtaken Kaya as my #1 favorite of the group, but she is now definitely my #2 favorite.

But I'll probably pass; stories about idols make me really anxious, so it's hard for me to enjoy them.

Sounds like I was right to drop, situations like that burn holes in my guts.

Wow. That was honestly, a really incredible episode.

Did I hate watching parts of it? Yeah. I did. But they did the right thing and turned it around and gave a positive ending to this one episode arc. I'm really very impressed with the tact and authenticity with which they handled this episode. What we just watched in this episode is the really awful truth about how show business is for females. It's ugly. Welcome to the real world. That's the tension between being a performing professional and your personal boundaries. At which point do you draw the line? Where do you sell yourself out to keep your dream alive? But the real world also has its beautiful side, and that's what the end of the episode in the maid cafe was all about. Wonderful use of juxtaposition. I was really happy watching that.

Spoiled for somewhat off-topic, somewhat controversial and very much personal opinion.

The old manager lady coming back as easily as she did is annoying, but at least they didn't just trust her outright and at least she did find them a job. Hopefully Matsuda will start to grow a bit, too, and if he does that will further boost my opinion of this show. I don't just want to see the journey of the idol group; I want to see his journey as a person and how he affects and is affected by them. Doing that would very much improve this show over the long run. If he just stays incompetent the whole time, the show can still be good, but I don't think it will ring as true.\

The OP song is great and I'm in for the rest of the show following this episode.

EDIT: OH AND MOAR NYARKO-SAN!!!!

Episode 2
The first half really pissed me off and the mizugi service was unnecessary/uncomfortable to see.

Glad the Pres came back, cause tbh without her they won't make it far with just Matsuda.

Episode 2

Yeah... the first part of it you know it didn't feel right, and their show was essentially exploiting both their inexperience and naivety. I'm partly glad that the president was there when it happen and beat the living snot out of Sudo, but as expected, the group are really hesitant about her. At least to make amends, they got a regular spot on local TV so that's a good thing. Also it's nice to see some character growth with Miyu and how supportive her fans were. Mayu seems to wish she had fans like that after her "graduation" from I-1.

Also amused that they used the Nyaruko 2nd OP again.

I don't think I've ever had my rage button pushed so hard over an anime. I have to say this episode was brilliant even if I felt like turning it off through most of the first half. That wasn't fan-service, that was shame-service. If the rest of the episodes are up to this, we're in for an amazing ride.

Seconding that. Looks like I will not be picking this up. (I have too many shows on my list as it is.)

I Love this show because it is not your typical singing show,it actually has heart to it. Plus it doesn't end like every other singing show like"Oh we need to save the school because it is closing down" theme to it

What I'm hoping is that was a direct shot at the entire fan-service trope. They meant the audience to feel nauseated by it. They rubbed the audiences nose in it, sneered in disgust and dropped the mic. They made a pretty bold statement here, I hope they follow through with it.
