I've watched the "Go and Shougi" show on the NHK a few times and I admit it puts me to sleep so it was very funny to hear Kana describe a game in some a fun way!

If she narrated a boring game show like that (like chess for instance), I would definitely watch it.
Go and Shogi hosted by Kana Hanazawa would likely be one of the NHK's highest rated shows LOL.

I have never really liked any of the anime "shorts" (you'd have to go back to Haruhi-chan to find one that I enjoyed at all.) There's just no time to develop characters or tell much of a story. But Tonari no Seki-kun is perfect for the format and may very well end up being my favorite of the season.

Do we know if Seki was parodying a battle from The Tale of Heike, or maybe the overall theme?

I read a quick plot summary (yay for tangential learning) but it was really basic and nothing stood out. I wanted to find out what would've happened to the Gold General if Yokoi hadn't interfered, or if her interference was part of the parody.

Shimono made Seki so cute and HanaKana made the show muuuuch better.
they deserve better art and animation

I actually really love the art style and animation. They seem to fit the tone of the show really.

I'm with ginkou-san on this. The art and animation could and should have been much better quality to really highlight Seki-kun's crazy antics.

Anyway, even though I'm all caught up on the manga I'll still watch this.

Has anyone had any luck tracking down a full version of the ED?

Oh and some bonus eye candy :)

if you read the manga, then you should know that the art styles for both of these are the same.

The animation quality to me looks pretty good, it's not choppy or glitchy.

Ooooooooooooooh agreed entirely! It's just the right length and a lot going on instead of "okay we are stopping right here".. or "wow that felt long"..

I laughed so hard during this one. Definitely one of my favorites this season.

That evil, false king! He got what he deserved! :D

She's so engrossed in the story of what's going on and his reaction at the end was friggin' awesome.

The way Yokoi gets so into what Seki is doing reminds me a bit of Yukko watching Mai in Nichijou

I also agree, the short format really fits for this anime

Doesn't come out until the 22nd so... if the usual Japanese music industry leaks happen, you should see it on youtube in a few days... or you can buy it, OP, ED and Mizuki Ichiro song all in 3 versions (full, anime size and karaoke):
