After finishing up the latest episode of Kill La Kill and going through Cuticle Detective Inaba, I've found that both Satsuki Kiryuin and Don Valentino are my favorite characters on either show and I like them more than the protagonists.

Are there any animes where you find yourself enjoying the villain of the show more than the hero? Which ones and why?

Sure. I find Kotomine Kirei from Fate/Zero much more interesting then his heroic counterpart Kiritsugu Emiya, even though Kirei's a completely horrible person. Kirei for all his faults had such passion in what he did by the end, while Kiritsugu remained the ever stoic "I did what I had to do" hero. I also think almost all Gundam fans prefer Char over Amuro. Char Aznable was a charismatic leader, often wise, often foolish, and driven by revenge. Amuro by comparison was rather bland.

How would the labels of antagonist and protagonist work in Mirai Nikki? I liked most of the characters on that show and most of them were against Yukiteru...

Speaking of Antagonists and Music...

Reason: He stopped the...wait this deserves more boldness. HE STOPPED THE MAIN THEME SONG,THE MANY F##KING THEME SONG. I watch a lot of anime and I never seen any other antagonist do that. Also it was surprising,I honestly expected him to be a ally to Ichigo and help them when he first appeared and what's with being on a different power level.

I don't know if anti-heroes can be considered villains... <.<'

Anyway, series where I liked the villain more than the hero. Bleach is the best example I can think of, actually, Aizen was infinitely more awesome than Ichigo. Ichigo is just a bland, boring, stock character that has no real personality. On the other hand, Aizen is the best Troll in the history of Trolls, making things down right hilarious when he is trolling people, hence why he is my favorite character... Wait, is that a proper reason to like a character? Hmm... <.<'

In a more serious example, I guess it comes down to Legato Bluesummers from Trigun, though. Yes, Vash and Wolfwood are freaking FANTASTIC characters. I love them both, but Legato has always been my favorite character in the series. I can't really pin-point WHY exactly, but I think it has something to do with his unsettling presence. He gets a reaction out of Vash more than ANY other character could ever hope to emulate, and that includes Knives. Every time he shows up, you KNOW something is going to happen. He is like the harbinger of death, and, really, steals the villain mantle from Knives just because he is infinitely more effective.

To me, antiheroes are in the middle between heroes and villains.
Tragic villains make me angry and some of the villains in anime are like that.
I did say the word "some" though.

Nope. Story tellers expect viewers to like anti-heroes. You're not supposed to like villains. Anti-heroes are rarely protagonists.

Fine. There aren't many villains in anime I like but the same goes for heroes too.
I'm picky about what type of villain I want.

I never got the rage behind the tragic villain thing. There is nothing wrong with a sequence of events leading a character down the path of villainy. A lot of the best villains ever were this sort of thing. Harvey Two-Face, Darth Vader, etc. Now, it can go TOO far like in Naruto where okay, sad backstory and they are evil now... ok, cool. Oh... Speech no Jutsu and a hug turns them good now for no reason despite years of doing bad things with no regrets... I am looking at YOU Nagato! And nearly everyone else in Akatsuki that isn't named Zetsu or Deidara... So many ruined characters! Freaking Kishimoto... >.<

Johan Liebert from Monster, Johan is a much more interesting and complex character than Tenma, and Johan is the definition of evil, it's fun just to wonder what he is plotting next.
I did like Aizen much more than Ichigo my opinion is pretty much the same as everyone's in this thread.
Byakuran from KHR, i liked him more than Tsuna in my opinion Byakuran is a much more interesting character and note

Bradley from FMA, okay i like Ed don't get me wrong, but Bradley was a character who i enjoyed more overall.

Sometimes..

I guess Lucy in a way from Elfen Lied although she stands out more as an anti hero. From top of my head, Accelerator during his initial introduction in Index, Envy from FMA, and Hisoka from the Hunter x Hunter. (plus some of the Phantom Troupe members)

I've thinking the same. And there are alot of animes where the antagonist and protagonist linesa are blurred, as to make it interesting to follow. Either way, i really like Gasai Yuno, which some people might view as protagonist and some as antagonist. It's really up to how each individual views the character, in some cases. :D
Asides from Mirani Nikki, i guess i like Ultimecia equally as much as Rinoa, in Final Fantasy VIII, which is a game and not an anime but still.
