The Crunchyroll app is most definitely on the kindle. I used to watch all of my shows on it until I fixed my computer. I would highly recommend it.

The HDX is able to out put HD so you should be able to get full 1080p. The only thing that might detour you from a kindle is that it has a custom android OS meaning that you can't get the Google Play store.

The standard Android app still supports no better than 360p at this point, but I'm not 100% certain that applies to the Kindle app.

The OUYA app was the first Android-based app to support 1080p, so it would make some sense for the Kindle app to receive an update before the "generic" android app, as it only needs to support a limited number of hardware configurations.

CR has stated their intent to bring HD support to Android, so if it isn't supported on Kindle now, it will be, although no time table has been announced.

It is an app for the $99 Android based small game console that is perhaps most notable for having a very well funded Kickstarter campaign.
