Hello Crunchyroll!

So I bought these two adorable nekomura earphone plugs the other day and I absolutely love them!

But as I plugged them in today, I noticed that my phone wouldn't play any sounds. When I unplugged the nekomura, it would play just fine.

So this is the first time I really bought any earphone plugs which are purely decorative and non functional, so this might actually be a stupid question...but is this normal? I was under the impression that all these earphone plugs do is keep dust from falling into the earphone jack.

I have a Nokia Lumia 520 (Windows 8) phone by the way.

Thanks CR!

A normal headphone jack will only cut off audio if the plug that is inserted completes a circuit, or is at least conductive.

Unless the Nekomura plug is conductive (and I expect they are rubber or plastic), it would appear your phone uses an actual physical switch for shutting off the audio when a plug is inserted.

If you have any other devices with a 3.5mm audio jack, test to see if it has the same behavior there.
