I hate about it is how everybody keeps to themselves. No eye contact at all, no greeting strangers you pass, when they walk by you you could be doing cartwheels and on fire and they'll pretend you aren't there (they are really good at not looking, too). They're super nice when you interact with them (at least in the areas that get foreigners, not so much in the middle of nowhere), but will avoid confrontation at all costs if they can lol.

Before this topic degenerates into viscious name-calling and whatever...

Relentless street hawkers in Guatemala and Israel. When traveling, I'm really more interested in the old and ancient stuff (as well as natural wonders), like the Mayan ruins and the old city part of Jerusalem. I accepted it as "part of the scenery" (and through pre-trip research knew to expect it), but being constantly accosted by children (particularly in Guatemala) and adults (particularly in Israel) trying to sell me something and tailing me wherever I go gets really wearisome quickly. I found myself ducking into hotels and shops in Guatemala just to get a break from the kids selling this and that (and they'll wait for you to come out to continue to pitch, until another tourist happens by who may be more amenable). I found myself just refusing to talk to anyone in Jerusalem to avoid yet another sales pitch. Once when a bit lost in Jerusalem, a Jewish man in hasidic dress approched me asking if he could help. I walked away, but he persisted, and I finally relented. When he simply gave me directions and wished me well, and went on his way-- without any sales pitch-- I was actually surprised and relieved (and a bit ashamed I had behaved rudely to him initially) that I finally met someone who didn't have an ulterior motive beyond just good will.

I like everywhere I've gone, but the one thing that pisses me off about every country is how everybody who lives there thinks their country is the center of the universe. Being an American, I'm not really one to talk because we're as guilty of it as anyone else, but it just seems like either ignorance of the rest of the world, or arrogance and self-superiority; except for maybe Ireland, they're about as mellow as it comes, and it's nice. Too bad it's always either raining or cold when I'm there.
I love Japan because it's so different from America, and my super-sexy girlfriend lives there, but I hate how a ticket there is so expensive, and how the humidity is so oppressive.
I like [the idea of going to] Afghanistan because it's half a world away from my parents, but I hate it because it's an undeveloped, third-world, boozeless shithole full of Taliban and nothing else.
I like Canada because their drinking age is 19, and the Canucks are usually a good team, but I hate it because Canadians are rude, they don't know how to drive, they're idiotically jingoistic, and because of the metric system, I'm paying $6 a gallon for gas in Vancouver when I could just stay on my side of the border and not need a home loan for gas.

The United States is one of the most diverse and beautiful countries I've ever visited, it has stunning landscapes from enormous mountains to vast deserts with gigantic canyons. The people are incredible, generous and lively. The problem lies in it's government; it's a very dysfunctional institution. It has secrecy problems, people are heavily taxed, freedoms are regularly threatened and it even seems to forget about the country's Constitution at times. The US government disregards public interests for special interests and acts like they don't work for the people.

To me, that seems far from what a democracy should be.

Like someone else posted about lack of information about other countries to judge.

I hate and like America. I hate the government. I hate the justice system here. I hate the current generation and their music, an their obsession over the most trivial things. I hate the taxes, I hate the criminals, I hate big businesses and big banks and how they pretty much have the government in their wallets. I hate the economy I HATE HOW AN INDIVIDUAL'S HEALTH AND EDUCATION HINGES ON THEIR WEALTH and most of all I hate the whiners.

But I like food, I like my job, I like my freedoms (when the government allows it), I like the fact we're a big crucible of every ethnicity and faith. I like that I pursue any job want and am not just given what my government thinks I should do.

I like a lot of countries but I'll focus on one...I really like a lot of things about Japan but...

ADMIT YOUR WAR CRIMES! Stop trying to act like you're innocent, and the war was everyone elses fault!

I would have said something about Australia, but then I dislike most things about that country. And yes, this is coming from someone who lived there for some time.

Woah.. Have you ever thought what Japan felt when they had to do the Unconditional Surrender? The Nukes had nothing to do with the Germans war... Seriously...

Japan seems to be a country where you can't speak your mind to be free. Also, there seem to be many people very much in denial when it comes to being prejudice.

That's true. Japan is not a heaven. It's a country like all other countries. I'm just trying to figure out why they avoid people from West and Europe. There has to be something to do with the wars. Of course there are much more to it than that.

I don't think it has anything to do with the war, when they think of the west they think "white people" with a different personality, language, etc so it's hard to interact with them for Japanese people. Also, do you avoid german people because of the war? Exactly. Don't connect things to past wars, it might turn this topic in a historian's flame fess

Oh well don't be so mad. You may be right. I don't know really. Just thinking. I mean both WW1 and WW2 has shaped the world like it is today. Ah sorry this is off topic. You're right. I don't hate anything. I can't bring myself to hate anything so that's why I put up questions instead.
