Anyway got any suggestions? I need to make sure my mind is clean and empty, so that I can focus. Only when I can focus and live in the present moment can I be successful at life.

No trolling in this thread. I'm in serious need for help because my life is in shambles and I need help from you guys.

When I need to clear my mind, I usually write stuff down in a notebook. Be it a diary or a w/e, it allows you to "transfer" your thoughts from your mind to paper.

I now write in a diary every day because I had trouble sleeping due to stress during my college years.

That is slightly different from what I do. I write it everwhere where people can read and hopefully respond to it. Trying to keep my most private stuff in my own world. I'm really giving too much information to people but it loosens the tension of anxiety and stressful thoughts. My mom says I should write a diary. Maybe I should!

I used to talk to people about it (sort of use them as a board to bounce my train of thought off of, but then they would be involved with certain situations (like know the person or be a part of the situations) so I took to writing these things down.

Diaries are really good because when you forget why you thought a certain way, you can see your train of thought in paper form. But generally I use it to take stuff out of my mind. A clear mind is good for sleeping.

TL;DR I recommend diaries/journals!

I jog/walk while listening to music. the music you want is positive and encouraging. classical, violin, etc are all pretty good. You're 21, I assume you drive. You can take a long drive, so long as you can relax and not road rage.

Unless you don't care about, or can guarantee nobody will read your stuff and use it against you, I don't recommend writing anything down (unless you destroy it immediately afterwards)....... I had an evil family.

Watch a really, really bad anime that shouldn't be thought about too hard (or ever). After you start questioning why you watched such trash, your mind may either: start thinking about said anime, or forget about it and those other mind-stuff you're trying to forget.

I also have too much stuff in my mind....I try to ignore it by reading some books, a good book could make you calm and feel at peace. To me, at least.

Go to the gym, or wake up early and run for an hour...it does wonders! if your body feels good, your mind will also feel good.

Have you thought about going to the army, the Navy or National Guard? it will be a good way to make your mind focus on the things that matter and shape your personality to live in the presence because it requires a lot of discipline, physical and metal strength.

If you just want to be in the moment or "in the zone" when doing something, then you shouldn't have a blank mind that blocks out all thoughts and feelings, but rather a mind that is able to accepts everything without clinging onto anything. Your mind needs to be calm and composed even in the face of adversity or distractions. This is called wu-hsin, or "no mindedness"
But if it's personal problems that are distracting you, then you need to either find your own ways to resolve them or learn to accept and cope with them if they can't be resolved.

drink lots of tea and listen to nature sounds. I just downloaded this app called Rain, Rain the other night and it has helped me sleep much better, which is usually when my mind explodes from over thinking every little thing

Usually meditating, sleeping, drinking tea, exercising, and talking about what's troubling me with my mom helps me calm my mind down.

Without trolling, being serious, dependent on what you mean by "shambles" and "full of stuff" mind, I'd recommend talking to a shrink that can do scripts and get on something.
