God it feels like we just did this. The anxiety, the hope, the eventual let down when you find out they're not streaming that one show you wanted them to. Hopefully this lineup will be as big as last season's roster. The one i really hope they announce is Tonari no Seki-kun. It looks to be the funniest show to air this season by far.

The two animes I am really looking forward to are Nisekoi and to a lesser extent Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda (I like my colorful, unusual series). I have a feeling that CR will most likely get Sekai Seifuku. As for Nisekoi, if CR doesn't get it I have a feeling Funi will pick it up

Aniplex already license Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda and Nisekoi they announced it like two weeks ago

Wait, it's Winter already? I haven't even watched more than 2 or 3 of the Fall titles, and even then I haven't finished any of them. Man time flies. Didn't finish all of the Summer titles on my queue either.

Oh well, I can't blame Crunchyroll for being competent and providing a wide selection, it's why I pay a sub after all, and why I don't pay The Anime Network or Funimation.

1st of all, I'm the same guy.

Second of all, Aniplex doesn't stream any of their own stuff. They do, however, often licence their stuff to other streaming services. For example, CR simulcasted the second season of Oreimo, an Aniplex title. And those two series were Aniplex's by default (A-1 Pictures is actually an Aniplex founded studio), so no news there.

Aniplex already announced a license to both, and the intention to stream:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2013-12-20/aniplex-of-america-announces-winter-2014-streaming-line-up

Aniplex would not license these titles to Funimation, since as you'll note in the linked article they are planning their own home video release. That would also rule out Viz.

As with past Aniplex titles, these will be simulcast on Hulu and CR and/or Daisuki. (Aniplex has yet to give a total exclusive to Daisuki; the closest they have come was the 4 week delay for Monogatari episodes for CR).

Only thing I'm interested in here is Mushi-shi, but I haven't seen the original series. Anyone has an idea whether this OVA will be something watchable as a standalone?

That's the one most interesting to me as well ~ it was one of the last series I saw on Netflix DVD's before I dropped down to streaming only.

Most of the episodes of the original series could be watched pretty much stand-alone. You have to get into the idea of the mushi-shi themselves, but that should be possible in the space of a movie. There's some subtle character development along the way, but while that gives more depth to the story, but at the gentle pace of Mushi-shi, it ought to be possible to give plenty of hints to new viewers what is going on.

sjcinnymon wrote: Too bad somebody already beat them to it lol! And here I thought all of these anime streaming companies and websites were on the same page with one another, especially the major ones. Guest not, lol

It wasn't just "someone", it was the company they licensed it from announced the streaming arrangements both inside and outside of Japan. Aniplex did the same thing this (Fall) season, announcing titles would be streaming on Crunchyroll a while before Crunchyroll had even started making their announcements for the season.

Permissions in that relationship go one way ~ Crunchyroll has to get their site announcement approved by the licensor, but the licensor doesn't have to get approval from Crunchyroll.

And how is that information relevant...?

Most Aniplex of America licensed series over the past three years have streamed on Crunchyroll, so the relevance of an Aniplex of America simulcast announcement is that it makes it 80%+ likely that they going to be simulcast on Crunchyroll, 95%+ likely they'll stream on Crunchyroll, either simulcast or delayed.
