Would you watch it?

Could it be really amazing?

Would it be a complete failure?

I would try it.
Probably not.
Possibly.
I personally think that live-action is the ONLY way to watch Doctor Who. It has amazing actors that all add their own personal touches to the Doctor. Even if he regenerated in the anime it would still be the same art style so it wouldent feel like a complete change. I am also fond of the cheesy special effects.

There was a Fan animation using the 3rd Doctor that was pretty neat to watch.

and the Doctor has been animated by British animation studios

Ultimately it's tricky to try and shift cultural mediums. It's like Hollywood trying to do Dragonball Z or a Godzilla film.

Someone has to stand over the people in charge with a club every second of every day or they will get it wrong.

I'm not saying it isn't possible to do it well but it has to be done by someone who understands and loves Both mediums to get it right.

Yes. The biggest problem I have with the show is that since it's recorded in reality, there's a lot of unneccesary background objects, the lighting is hard at times, and so on and so forth. I love Dr Who, but an anime would be amazing! That's just me personally though.

Done and done :D

To Pryro: I can agree with all that if its done by a Japanese studio. But I hunk the course that fans and the BBC have taken, with filling in lost episodes with animated recons is simply brilliant, and a great way to tell those stories. I'd also be interested in some other stories being told, it would depend on the subject matter...maybe stories of the time ear or something.

I would watch it. At the very least it visually can't look worst than the live action version, can it(and I say this as a huge fan of the franchise, it just doesn't have good effects most of the time, now when they put in an actual budget like the 50th Anniversary film/special, it can look amazing)?

A Doctor Who serial animated in the style of Japanese animation could work.

The BBC has already done several classic serials as animations because of missing video. They still had the audio recordings, story board, and pictures from the set, so they were able to animated the missing episodes. They are still working on other missing episodes as well, and plan on releasing them as animations in the future.

Now, would animating it in the style of Japanese animation be worth it? Probably not, but I still think it would be pretty cool.

I would love to see Tom Baker animated like a Japanese anime, as his personality would fit.

Here is an example animated clip from a William Hartnell episode.

Thanks for that.

Pertwee is my favorite Doctor because of his love for vehicles. I liked how he always wanted to find some way for him to drive something in an episode. Hes flown helicopters and driven hovercrafts. His episodes were always a blast, and filled with lots of car chases.

If someone were to link it to me in this forum, I would not click it.

If Doctor Who was made by Madhouse Studios into an animated film, OVA, or series, I would not watch it.

If Doctor Who was a T.V. show, I would not watch it.

If there was such a thing as "Doctor Who" I would probably pretend like it didn't exist.

If a show staring some white guy who's primary super power was "succeed at everything because he is who he was" had his own T.V. show, it would be called Doctor Who, and I would not watch it.

I would understand why people would like and watch this hypothetical show, but I would also think less of them for liking it.

I'm more into Star Trek, Star Wars, Pokemon, Batman, Digimon, Chinese history, Greek mythology, and the like.

IN all seriousness, I would not watch a Doctor Who anime, do not suspect one to ever be created, believe it to be far too culturally different for Japan to even make an attempt to copy, and I don't watch regular Doctor Who.

It wouldn't turn out well. Dr. Who would get regenerated into a teen girl, and his companion would be a high school boy. Let that sink in for a moment.

Nah, it'd be him and his harem.

An animated version would work, I think, as long as the Japanese weren't doing it solely by themselves. If, say, it was a cast of mainly Western actors and a few English speaking Eastern actors, the team having advisers being mainly from the West with the studio doing the animation being from Korean or Japan or somewhere around there, then sure...

I guess, though, in that sense it wouldn't be an "anime" would it? But then again, who the hell really cares since it's all cartoons anyway? Whether it's Japanese, English, French, or whatever it'll be Doctor Who in an animated format. Which, they've already done...

Moving on, I'm not sure if it'd generate a good number of sales over there if they did make an anime version of it. It works here, but on the flip side...
