From the CR Forum Rules: (http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Site_Rules):

9. Type legibly. Avoid posting multiple images, double posting or creating quote pyramids.

I think the part of Rule #9 that needs to be updated is the "avoid posting multiple image".

The only reason I bring this up is because few people seem to adhere to that part of the rule (as well as no quote pyramids), and it isn't universally enforced in the forums. It seems like more of a "soft rule" (Mod discretion) unlike posting links to BitTorrent sites which I would consider a "hard rule" (immediate removal).

Recently, I ran across a post in a thread that had 36-38 separate images in it. I ran across another that had about 25 images embedded in it. Most of which were hidden below a vast quote/spoiler pyramid. Though Rule #9 doesn't specify, it seems hiding multiple images beneath Spoiler tags is a common practice and passable.

While multiple images don't necessarily bother me (except for H-U-G-E images that are linked to and distort the thread format such as the last image in this thread: /forumtopic-833207/the-real-life-consequences-of-anime), maybe updating Rule #9 is necessary at this time.

It seems that 3-5 images is about the average violation of Rule #9. Maybe that rule could be flushed out a bit to say "Multiple images up to three to five images per post are permitted. Anymore than that may result in your post being edited by a Mod/Admin." Or something of the sort.

I realize this isn't a pressing matter, but since I see this rule violated often, I thought maybe it's time to update it a bit and make it more flexible in these times of broadband Internet connections.

Cheers.

If you see multiple images of the 30+ sort (heck, even the 10+ sort), please do report them. Mods don't read all posts in all threads, and those are ones that can go without us noticing, especially if they are under spoilers. To be honest, I don't think many people actually like to see that many images in a single post, and we do have some users who are on limited data plans, so we do want to clean up anything egregious like that.

I agree with your assessment that this is one of the "softer" rules. Personally I only come down hard about the 2-image guideline in image-intensive threads where folks have been regularly posting dozens of images at a time, and where there is virtually no discussion happening.

I think it's important to have some kind of image-quantity rule in place in order to keep things reasonable, but I also agree that our rules could use some adjustments. So thanks for the suggestion!

While hiding them in a spoiler at least solves the problem of having to scroll past a long single message, my understanding is those images are still loaded even if the spoiler isn't clicked on.

For someone on a slow DSL connection (which might still be adequate for watching in SD), or worse, someone browsing the forum on a mobile data connection with a low cap, that could be an issue.

If they in fact do not load unless the spoiler is clicked on, however, then a rule requiring any images beyond 2 to be spoilered should be acceptable, as long as the person doesn't get really carried away. (I doubt anyone wants to see a message with 25 images, nor is it likely there would be a good reason for posting so many).

3 to 5 images might be a good idea.A lot of posters do that and it seems reasonable.

But that being said you ever seen how much space a debate takes up? You can have qoutes and requotes that take up a whole page'

Sometimes a wriiten post takes up more space than images. I really dont want limits but the same can be said about written posts.

I have. People need to learn to either edit the quote down to only the relevant part (including removing previous quotes), or at least spoiler those quote towers.

Sadly, that comes down to a process or education. I wonder if it would do any good if CR made a forum tutorial video and required people to watch it before they post. I suspect a lot of people would just start the video and then switch to another tab and pay no attention (the "you can lead a horse to water" problem).

Thanks lorreen , TheAncientOne, and FLjerry2011 for your thoughts and feedback. Appreciate it. I'll makes sure to report the more egregious multi-images posts if I stumble across them in the future.

Cheers.
