So I just started this series and so far in the first episode they have shown some Japanese kanji a few times with a moving background, but they do not offer a translation. Since I do not know Japanese I was wondering if someone could tell me what it says. It seems important, but if I can't read it... lol.

Those are kind of important.

Watch different subs.

It's usually a safe bet that if you're running into kanji you're watching a sub, so it's not exactly like his logic was crazy.

Do you have screenshots or time stamps? I can check and see if they're translated in my set later.

If you don't watch subs and don't know Japanese, how are you watching the show?

And you're welcome.

The show is dubbed on Funimation.

And never mind. I watched the parts of the subbed version that have the text and in the sub they translate it. Why they don't in the dubbed version is beyond me.

The dub option completely slipped my mind, actually. Huh.

They don't translate it for the dub? I would have thought they would offer the subs of certain text that appears. There are several cryptic messages that appear but unless i saw a screencap i wouldn't know which you mean.

I believe the one you are refering to are several of Lain's emails with the girl who dies.

I remember the main one says "What does it feel like when you die?" "It hurts like hell :)"

Just started watching the episode to have a look.

First one says "Why you should do that is something you should figure out for yourself"

Second. "If you stay in a place like this you might not be able to connect"

Third the email i just mentioned earlier.

I think that's all the floating text.

Oh you found a sub and know i just posted some translations XD. Ah well. Very odd they don't have the subtitles in the dub i;'m sure on the DVD there is an option to have subs on captions only.

Weird that they didn't translate it on funimation's site, since they did for the dvd releases

Probably a small error. Ah well at least people are still picking up this amazing show. Honestly i can't praise it enough for being so well written and clever. It also predicted a lot about the world as it is now and the way everything is hooked up to the internet with how much we rely on computers.

Just so ahead of it/s time. Though i guess the opening quote is timeless XD. "Present day....Present time...hahahaha" I've always wanted to find out who did that quote they sound western.
