Lol, I've been thinking about that for a while now, how ironic that a forum topic should come up! Yeah, I agree that it'll probably take some time for people to get used to it. Not only that, but there are barely any asians in America's music industry, if none.
Although yes, Asian rap/pop/hiphop has a slightly different feel to it than American rap/pop/hiphop. Listen to Suzuki Ami's remixed version of Aly & AJ's "Potential Breakup Song" and you'll get what I mean. It sounds more..."gentle" and "smooth", but I can't really find the right words to describe it.
But that would be great if Asians were to appear in America's music industry, (although I hope I won't be too old to be interested by then ) Let's have our fingers crossed!

I agree with above^^ that Asian music from Asians in Asian countries sounds a bit different than the norm, so they'd either have to tweek it a bit, or keep pushing for Americans to accept it.

As with Asian rappers, I think Americans would, if they're any good. I mean look at Jin - people still know him as the legend (I don't think he ever lost on Free-Style Friday on BET). And I've listened to a ton of songs from or with mflo and my friends really dig it - Ioften hear "...Wow, they sound like they're from here." Same with pop songs -- one of my friends is convinced that 'Luvotomy' could be played on the radio hear and fit right in and be a huge hit.

I think it will take a LONG time before more Asian artists are accepted in American media, let alone doing well. I remember seeing Bi on TRL and I was so excited, but you can see that all the people watching him were Asian and/or female, so it kind of shows that no one else is really willing to listen.

I always think in my mind that so and so could do well in the U.S., but really, they probably won't. It's not that American is racist, but it's already difficult to make it big in the American music industry, so it surely would be way harder if they didn't speak the same language.

I think the only artists that somewhat made themselves known to the media are probably Teriyaki Boyz for Tokyo Drift and Utada Hikaru for being in Kingdom Hearts.

america isn't really racist...depends if the persons good or not but people usually make fun of asian music because they're not used to listening to a language they don't understand. i personally think asians are more talented than a lot of famous singers/rappers today

I am an American. I think they would. I have tons of artist that I love from different Asian countries.

the reason why asian singers don't tour in the united states is because they won't make a lot of money. a main part of that is indeed racism as the thread starter mentioned. take rapping for an example, people here still believe that only African Americans can rap, maybe whites, too (thanks to eminem). Therefore when they see a asian rapping, they think they are just trying to act "black" or trying to copy.

of course there are some exceptions, where pure talent helped them become famous. Jin and Mike Shinoda.

And mostly importantly, people usually don't like music they can't understand. majority of americans can't understand any asian languages. even if they have some english verse here and there in their songs, the majority of the song is in their native language. (then theres me, who can't understand any of the lyrics of some of my favorite songs... haha, need to brush up on my asian language skills)

So I highly doubt any mainstream asian singers will ever be popular here in the USA.

I love k-rap and j-rap

But lets face it- America is a fully blown hate machine, and seeing an asian rapper to most of America is a joke.
the rappers now in America suck, so i stopped listening to the and switch to rappers like epik high and big bang, etc. Their songs have so much more meaning to them than "shake that ass hoe, etc."

maybe if Americans weren't so racist they'd have a chance here... but the probability of that happening are slim to none.

rap from 2000 on down in America was pretty good. Wish it'd change back to the way it was...

Rap No..not any time soon at least (jin is american born)...singing on the other hand is a different subject.. i think if a singer tried they could make it they would just have to give it an honest go and learn english which alot already do...

reasons No for rappers

language barrier... why listen to something you cant understand...they maybe able to rap but that doesnt mean they can in english...

cultural barrier... the whole point of rap is to be able to relate to it if you cant relate to it then of course your not going to like it
different countries, different styles example(loud beats for subs in cars)(different dance requires different types of music and beats), different social norms and lifestyles...

also to say that asians have more talent at rap is just plain dumb... their are plenty of hispanic, uk, french, samoan, american etc. rappers that would strongly, strongly disagree...

alot of the most popular american rappers are not neccesarily considered the favorites or the best they are the ones that ussually use catchy phrases and nice beats and dont really focus on their lyrics...

universally considered american greats...., 2pac, notorius b.i.g. nas,lil wayne, common, rakim, jay-z, andre 3000, eminem, lupe fiasco, mos def, Talib Kweli,Jadakiss,Raekwon ,Snoop Dogg, Big Daddy Kane, ice Cube, Grandmaster Caz, ....

p.s. i love listening to jrap along with jrock/pop... and i believe if you dont know most of these rappers/emcees i listed which is really just a small amount of them then you should not compare the two at all ...

I like one or two, they probably won't though.
