1. Dragonball Z - I would watch Toonami every day after school and be amazed by how cool this was.

2. Naruto - In my personal list, this show meant so much to me when before I even started watching "anime". I didn't even consider this anime at first.

3. One Piece - I don't know what took me so long to read/watch this show. I've been missing out for over 2 years.

4. Yu Yu Hakusho - One of my other favorite shows growing up. If you havn't seen this, shame on you seriously.

5. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. - What REALLY got me into the genre of anime, this opened the door for all other shows.

6. Bleach - WOW started watching this awhile after Naruto and it had me hooked during the first major arc.

7. Deathnote - This was my shit, besides the OSTs. Light had me hooked from episode one and got depressed when he died.

8. Samurai Champloo - MUGEN what a badass and love the Japanese rap OST.

9. Haikyuu!! - My first ever sports anime that I watched and REALLY love this show at the moment.

10. Gintama - Only 15 episodes in but am really enjoying this one.

Shounen is just a demographic, it doesn't define content. It just means the projected target audience is a specific age range, which for shounen would be around the ages of 10-20 for males. Does that mean the content has to be for that target audience specifically? No.

As an example, Anohana: The Flower We Say That Day is a shounen title. Not shoujo, not josei. Shounen. Think about that for a second.

For me I can't pick a top ten but I really like Gunslinger Girl, Gunbuster and its sequel Diebuster, Birdy the Mighty, and Cromartie High School.

I know what you're saying, but everyone knows what other people mean by "shounen". Also, I highly doubt that Anohana is shounen. But I don't know, I have to watch it some time.

My top 10 is an unfinished list of stereotypical shounen is:
1)Soul Eater
2)Fullmetal Alchemist (Haven't finished Brotherhood)
3)Blue Exorcist

I also loved watching Steins;Gate.

It's a shounen title. Well, technically, it doesn't belong to any demographic (original anime titles in general don't). So, really, it isn't shounen, but its manga adaptation is shounen (ie published in a shounen magazine).

Baccano! is also a "shounen" title, being that its manga adaptation (from the light novel source, of which the anime is also based upon) is published in a shounen magazine.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a "shounen" title, again for the same reasons as above (its manga adaptation).

Shounen is just a label, basically. Nothing more. Same with the others. It doesn't mean anything, but as you've stated I'm sure you're well aware of this. Just wanted to reiterate.
