How hype are you? Actually, I'm somewhat hyped having read the manga but not the LN yet. Assuming this is a 2 cour and Madhouse is presenting it, then it will definitely be something of the year.

I like the premise overall, and am ecstatic to see two great voice actors working together again to play these siblings! Kyousuke's voice actor from Oreimo is voicing the male and Ayase's voice actor from Oreimo is voicing the female here.

I am slightly worried about Madhouse recently, because of their anime aired in 2013;

I can't comment on Winter's Chihayafuru 2, since I haven't seen the first season.

Spring's Photo Kano was crap... nothing there to really hook me in.

Summer's Sunday Without God was way to light-hearted for my liking and ended on a major plot-hole.

The two sports anime from Fall; Hajime no Ippo (haven't seen the previous seasons) and Ace of Diamond (collaboration with Production I.G.) don't really attract me to them...

But hoping for better things from Madhouse in 2014! I'm looking forward to see how Magical Warfare is first, then I'll decide whether or not to get hyped.

I've read the manga and enjoyed it, but honestly speaking: The protagonist guy is even a worse Gary Stue than the fool in Sword Art Online.

Wonder how the anime will go...

I'm... passingly interested. I like the manga well enough, but it doesn't exactly have much depth.

It'll depend on the animation quality and atmosphere mostly.

I'm not sure if it'd align with your interests, but for what it is Chihayafuru is truly great. Although the second season wasn't quite as fulfilling as the first, since it covered a mostly intermediate portion in the manga between major events.

But season three, when it gets here, is going to be amazing. Potentially best-anime-of-the-year amazing. Which is always sort of a bias distinction, but for those who don't automatically discount the genre it'll be a serious contender.

I can't wait to see it. It's going to be awesome.

Anyway. Stuff.

I would have to disagree with you saying it may not align with my interests, it actually does. xD

I think it actually looks like a good anime series, I can get into most anime; except Yaoi/Shounen Ai and stuff like that. :P

What can I expect from Chihayafuru going into it's first season? It's Josei, right?

I actually liked Chihayafuru 2 a little better than the first, but both seasons were great so it doesn't matter.

Mild MKnR source material spoilers talking about characters (not plot):

So I expect I will enjoy the anime well enough.

Great!

It's shoujo I think, but it's almost more of a shounen sports anime most of the time. There is a love triangle, but that's mostly background noise for the majority of the series. It informs the characters but doesn't dominate screen time.

The first season threw me a bit, because the first thing they do is throw you into a flashback arc that takes you back to elementary school. But while it has occasional faults it's as close to perfect as I've seen an anime get in awhile.

And the karuta competitions are badass.

It's also just... really beautiful. Both in terms of art design and story direction.

I can't actually recall the last manga I read that I felt had "depth" and still was paced well. It's a trade-off in the medium. Read the LN if you want depth and I imagine an anime will be far more faithful to original material while still being reasonably paced... Since ya know... dialogue and images and such.

>MC a Gary Sue
>OP theme song is sung by LiSa
>The character design is to appeal to teenagers
>The main girl is useless
>Expecting Hipsters and Elitist will hate it in the future

Confirmed as the next Overrated anime of 2014

also the Mc looks like Blade Master Raven from Elsword, how unoriginal.

The first arc of the manga was pretty underwhelming, and actually quite boring compared to how much people were hyping the the series. Maybe the anime will do a better job.

The main dude got started out annoying then turned boring... then became a boring AND annoying gary stu... if it was just about his sister, I think it would have been better... or if it was about two sisters. >.>

I like the idea of the manga, but the mc made it bad.

With how often the manga breaks to explain things, the fact that all the conflict boils down to "Random student wants to be a jerkface because he's in the better class" three times over, and with characters that are presented as being superhumanly perfect... yeah, the manga was pretty horrendous.

I mean crap, I wanted to read an action manga, not someone's animated guide to the scientific principles of magic. It has the distinction of being one of the most boring things I've ever read. This goes for the other spinoff manga too.

Maybe the light novel handles the Magic for Dummies part better, and maybe the anime can get the plot going faster than the manga did. Dunno.

And yes, I know people complained about Kirito. Multiply by some double digit number, and you get Tatsuya.
