Agree but sometimes no sometimes the second or later is better

Hm, I always thought the second opening is best in a group, but I agree that endings are usually all over the place. But as examples of my own experience, i'll list the following

Hidamari Sketch (just barely)
Aria (the opening for Aria: the Natural)
Kimi ni Todoke
Code Geass and Code Geass R2 (Applied to each season separately).
Natsume Yuujinchou
Haruhi
Sengoku Collection
Bakemonogatari
Strike Witches
Black Butler
Spice and Wolf

And many others. But it's all taste. I might just have really weird tastes, but I preferred the second openings for all of those. That tends to be the rule for me (not saying there's no exceptions though).

I don't think so at all, maybe there are more first openings that are better (depends on who's listening) but it isn't by that much, at least in my experiences.

I think the 3rd Bleach Opening is the best song of the show (for OPs that is).
The first FMA:Brotherhood theme is my least favorite, not that it's bad but if forced to rank them it'd be at the bottom.
Monogatari series is the most consistent for me, no matter how often they change themes I love them.

I usually like whatever they change it to after hearing it enough times so tbh unlike others here, The World God Only Knows is the only show I can think of where I know for sure I liked the first OP more than the subsequent themes.

I have to admit that I usually don't find OPs or EDs all that compelling, and forget them quickly.

But...it is true that in a couple of cases recently, even though I didn't think I'd grown particularly attached to the OP, I felt disappointed when they changed the OP, and a few episoded in I still don't like the new OP. I think it might be more having become accustomed to the old one, than that it was especially better, though I'm not completely convinced.

These two recent cases where I actually noticed the OP had changed and was disappointed:

Gintama (I miss the first OP a lot )
Samurai Flamenco (I miss the first OP song, but not a lot, but I LOVE the current opening animation sequence)

One thing I do find myself wondering though, is why some long-running shows keep virtually the same opening song forever (I'm talking about you HxH--yes there are minor lyric variations but it's really the same song), and others change frequently--like at least every 12 or 13 episodes.

not always true, but it's mostly true.

the first Fullmetal Alchemist series had 4 openings, but openings 1 and 3 were crap while openings 2 and 4 were awesome. I'm actually glad Adult Swim did what they did and just played 'Ready Steady Go' and then only replaced it with 'Rewrite'.

most people will say that 'Guren no Yumiya' is the superior AoT opening, but I liked 'Jiyuu no Tsubasa' a lot more. it was just a better song overall, in my opinion.

the Monogatari series has a new OP for every story arc, and all of them are exceptional.

Strike the Blood , I loved the original opening, the 2nd opening took a little while to warm up to.

Another example where this rule doesn't apply:

Psycho-Pass, 2nd OP >>>>>>>>>>>>> 1st OP

On the other hand, 1st ED >>>>>>>>>>> 2nd ED

I would disagree, i think that with openings its kind of all over the place, there are times when the first is far better than the second, or when the opposite is true, or when they are both around the same level of awesome(or shit depending on perspective), here are some examples of openings after the first that i think are better(i dont include ones that are sequel series or after huge breaks, so a few notable ones are left out)

One thing that i think should also be noted is alot of the anime i watch either have sequel series(which i wont provide examples of as stated above), or only have one opening, so to give you perspective, from my experience(and of my opinion) most openings after opening 1 are actually better in my opinion. Here are some reasons why this could be because i tend to enjoy the second half of most series i like more than the first half(because thats when the finale happens, and the fact that i like shows that have alot of build up, so the parts with pay off tend to be my favorites, so i might be a tad biased) In any case, lets get on with the list

1. Inuyasha Opening 5: i think this one is far better than change the world, both because of the song itself and the arrangement of the animation that goes along with the song. It is a bit of an over the top opening, but i think it captures the spirit of inuyasha far better than the first opening did, therefore i believe it to be better

2. Gundam Seed Opening 3 Believe: Not only because of the song and animation, but because it was just a very fun opening. This opening came at a big turning point in the series, the first half of the series was pretty bleak at times, with a huge feeling of uncertainty with the characters, but the second halfs first opening really does kinda capture that turning point, and it really reflects the theme of "hope" that the second half has. It also feels like the animators had alot of fun making the opening, so i really just enjoyed it more and because of its tone, i prefered it over the first opening of the series

3. Gundam Seed Destiny Opening 2 Pride: Honestly, i think this series is pretty terrible, so this is purely for its choice of music and animation, no real deep reason here

4. FullMetal Alchemist Opening 4 Rewrite: Much like with Gundam Seeds 3rd opening, i felt like this opening captured the turning point in the series well. Throughout FMA, Ed and Al were kinda trying to keep the whole 'trying to find the philosophers stone' thing under wraps, but then during the final part of the series, they are going on the offensive, trying to understand everything thats happening and taking on the antagonists head on, and this opening really reflects that. The first opening does capture the adventure feel of the first part of the series, but i think that this opening captures what its trying to capture slightly better(it also helps that i prefer the song)

5. Fate/Stay Night Opening 2: Honestly, this opening captures the original fate/stay night series over the top second half really well, a fun opening for a fun anime. It also helps that i prefer the song, the animation and the tone of the opening

6. Toradora Opening 2: Its funny how such an energetic series actually had a pretty calm climax, the first half was insanely energetic and that opening reflected that super well, but then the second half kinda calmed down and i honestly prefered that tone, and the opening reflects that

7. Shakugan no Shana Season 1 Opening 2: This opening captures the helpless atmosphere the series had at that part of the series really well, whereas i felt the first opening really didnt suit the series at all(well, mainly the tone the series had at that point), so yeah, thats the reason i prefer that opening to the first one

8. Shakugan no Shana Season 3 Opening 2: This one was tough because i really loved opening 1 of season 3, they both capture the spirit of that season insanely well, but i feel like opening 2 really contextualized the motivations behind what the characters were doing better than the first one, and thats why i prefer it

I was going to write more, but i didnt want this response to be too too long, so i will end it here, i had like 5-7 more examples in mind, so if you want them just ask. I want whoever reads this to know that im saying this all in good fun, i love anime and am passionate about it, and sometimes i come off very serious, when in reality im a really silly guy. I just love talking about this stuff you know, anyway, until we meet again guys

Akame ga Kill op2> Akame ga Kill op1
Tokyo ghoul op1> Tokyo ghoul op2

I also agree most of the time i tend to enjoy the first opening of a series more than the others.

I like the first opening better of most shows. Some have really good second openings, some are not good. I always seem to prefer the second ED, though.

In most shows, the first opening is better, and for obvious reasons seeing that there's much more exposure with the first opening than the second. But there are some exceptions to the rule and these are the shows which I like another opening way better than the first:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - The fourth opening by Chemistry is by far the best of the openings.
Guilty Crown - The second opening is more fitting of this show than the first.
Magi: The Kingdom of Magic - The first opening of the first season is better than the second opening of the first season, but for the second season I like the second opening better.
Akame ga Kill - Love the serious tone of the second opening.
Eureka 7 AO - Flow's songs are just more fitting for this show, and thus I prefer its second opening as well.
