For those of you who don't know, Yasuomi Umetsu's Kite is being adapted into a live action movie by Samuel L Jackson. Now I'm not here to debate whether or not Kite was a good choice to adapt or not, or whether or not it will be a good movie, because that doesn't matter. (On a side note, the trailer makes it look awful. Too much dubstep, not enough psychological characterization, which is what made the Kite anime for me)

Kite is a cult classic, and a not particularly well known one at that, so the fact that, if something like that has the ability to get a Hollywood adaptation, who is to say there wont be others to come, and I'm not sure that this is a good thing in the long run. Now we have all gushed about the possibilities of a live-action Evangelion or a live-action Akira, but would they really be as good as their originals in the long run? We have seen Hollywood fuck up Dragonball, who is to say that they wouldn't fuck up anything else? Even adaptations of works from other mediums often get trampled by the stampede of greedy businessmen that is the backing behind Hollywood. The only live-action anime adaptation that I have everbeen excited for is Monster, and even then I am pretty concerned.

So what do you guys think? If Kite is popular will we see more of our favorite anime ruined, or so you think there is hope for the live-action remake industry. Another thing to note is that Hollywood has had some good luck as far as comic book adaptations, so I am willing to accept the idea that I might be worrying over nothing. Also, do you think the Kite movie will turn out ok?

I watch the 9 minute intro SLJ put out. It was... ok. The acting and the action sequences weren't that good, but a lot can change between now and the release date. Right now, I don't think it will be very good, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Since SLJ is such a fan of the original, I would hope he'd make a good adaptation. Unfortunately fans sometimes are the worst at adapting original material.
