Edit: seems the surprise may be something other than simulcast-related.

Their use of the word "surprise" may come back to bite them in the hindquarters. As it implies an element of "things that people aren't expecting".

But there's already a lot of all-but-promised stuff that is already overdue. Like the PS3 app. And the other apps they have hinted at. If those are announced as "the surprise", people will (or should...) call them out on it. If there's a surprise and no hint of apps, people will probably get arsey. If they'd just said "additional announcements" it would probably keep expectations tempered, but still foster excitement.

To me, what would class as "surprise" announcement would be things such as:
- Dropping ads for paid subsribers during simulcasts.
- Co-licensing with other services.
- Not just announcing apps but announcing apps on every goddamn platform out there and with a this-week release date.

Anything less than that isn't a "surprise", it's "expected and overdue".

Really hoping for sakura trick and engaged to the unidentified. I really do not want to have to fly to Japan to watch them each week.

We don't have anything close to what US and Canada have but we don't have much of an alternative so yeah, it's unfortunate

There are ALWAYS alternatives.

I will not mention anything beyond that.

Clearly, you need to be more hardcore.

Also, clearly, I jest.

Well Animax have finally announced their new streams:

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions
Hamatora
Nisekoi
Sekai Sseifuke: World Conquest Zvezda Plot.

Well that fills some of the gaps in the UK anime schedule

Well that's not a simulcast for Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions at least. The first episode was out several days ago. I'd be a bit disappointed if I had subscribed there.

So, starting up to a full week late and still limited to website-only?

How come the rights to these shows go to a Mickey Mouse operation like Animax, rather than a much more competent one like CR?

Good to get some confirmation, although it looks like I'll have to use other methods for Sakura Trick and pupa.

Animax caught up from a really, really late start last season (although that time was because the website wasn't ready yet) fairly quickly and just about everything was out within 3 days of its Japanese airing time from then on.

Because Sony is a large shareholder in Animax, and Sony owns Aniplex.

I will say getting anime in the UK is a b**** as there is no where near as much as a high demand for it as in the US..

I quite like what Wakanim is trying to do, and I have quite a bit of faith in Anime Limited since they seem to be single handedly revitalising the anime industry for the UK. Also, aside from Kill la Kill and Samurai Flamenco which are on the US Crunchyroll, Space Dandy is a Funimation license in the US, meaning that if it were not for Wakanim then we would not have gotten it anyway. I would also say that we may not have gotten the aforementioned two without them either, since there is no real way of knowing if Crunchyroll would have gotten those for us.

Animax though...they are more annoying. From my experiences with Anime on Demand they seem to grab licenses at random that Crunchyroll could have gotten us, then release them without an announcement with a release schedule that is sporadic at best. Last I checked most shows were also not being released as simulcasts either, but delaycasts that were up to 4 weeks or more behind, sometimes didn't even get a release out every week, and in some cases didn't even finish releasing all of the episodes on some shows. This begs the question, why in the hell do they think they are worthy of charging the same amount as Crunchyroll for their premium service when they are so clearly unreliable and have only a small number of titles. At least Wakanim acknowledge that they aren't that big yet and let you watch it for free (in HD I might add), and their premium service offers things not even seen on Crunchyroll, such as buying a drm free copy of the episode to keep.
