I'm a good way through Nagi No Asukara and I'm pretty sure this is the most beautiful anime I've ever seen. Now I'm on the hunt for more ridiculously detailed or beautiful anime to watch after this.

Other enjoyable visual marvels are Beyond the Boundary, Another and Outbreak Company. Any more suggestions?

The anime movie 5 CM per second is visually amazing, but don't watch it for story as it's space garbage.

Then you have the amazing Hunter X Hunter and well, ANYTHING from Studio Madhouse. They know how to animate, their shows use bright colors and are often very similar to source material art. Unlike say, KyoAni, I feel Madhouse looks great in motion, but only ok in pictures.

Aaaaand........I don't know.

Outbreak Company.

Wait, what?

Makoto Shinkai is a name to watch for (Felstalker already mentioned 5 Centimeters per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, Kami already mentioned Garden of Words, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Voices of a Distant Star), as well as more recent work by Gohands studio (Coppelion, K, Mardock Scramble).

Ruruoni Kenshin Trust and Betrayal OVA.
The animation for it's time was really good and smooth to look at.

I could see myself re-watching Non Non Biyori just to admire the backgrounds.
