I really suggest Mushi-shi! It's beautiful in background, environments, characters, and definitely the story! It's amazing.
Ano-Hana was a good one as well.
And.. there's a lot more, lol

So many to choose from but i will go with Mushi-shi. The art is stunning and the music is AMAZING. Even though Crunchyroll doesn't have the full sereis it still has the OVA~

Hanasaku Iroha and Chihayafuru are also eye-popping, although they're different styles

Chihayafuru, poetry and anime, 2 birds with one stone... (I was gonna say 2 birds in 1 stone, wtf).

Anddd... Chihaya (the main female lead in the pic above) is absolutely beautiful, I love her face shape.

Adding another recommendation for Moribito to the pile, as it is a genuinely gorgeous show. (As is Nagi-Asu, but that is the show that prompted the topic creator in the first place.)

If you will permit me to add a pair of oldies to the list, Rahxephon, especially for its time, is quite beautiful, and it has amazing music, too. My other rec is the Utena movie, which looks like a moving M.C. Escher painting (and also has amazing music).

EDIT: One more. Good luck finding this nowadays, but the Twelve Kingdoms anime is also extremely well-visualized.

Bumping because I just saw Death Billiards and it's one of the best looking things I've ever seen, fairly.

It's short and sweet too, just one 25-minute "movie" by Madhouse.

It's like they were animation testing to try and outdo Gohands.

Damn, you guys took all the good answers! I think Katanagatari is beautiful in its own way. It's simple, bright, and very colorful. Plus, I love the character designs.

your so right about this, the juxtaposition and the creativity of this anime is second to none as well as the stunning backdrops and the entertaining coming of age storyline. Nagi No Asukara is currently my favorite new anime! love the beautiful soundtrack as well.
