Diaphoresis or commonly known as cold sweats can happen normally through physical exertion, fever, eating spicy foods, exposure to high temperatures, and menopause. Even strong emotions ( anger, fear, anxiety etc.) and remembering a past trauma can trigger diaphoresis.

If your not sure if you experienced diaphoresis before here are some of the signs.

1. Your body sweats profusely under your arms, hands and/or feet.

2. You body feels cold (hints the name cold sweats) or "empty" as some have described it.

Now my first experience with cold sweats happened when I was in the 7th grade when our teacher showed us (with permission from our parents) the effects the electric chair had on overweight death row inmate and why there's a weight limit on executions. To see an actual person die was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen even if the punishment fit his crimes.

Another time was when my science teacher show us a video of how animals are processed for food. I told myself after that I wouldn't eat bacon but I still do .

Now I've had a few others ( like watching my first graphic adult film ) and ones I will only talk about through PM ( if your 18 or older).

So crunchyroll members when did you experience your first "cold sweat"?

I had a particularly bad nightmare 2 years ago. I woke up around 1AM .. or, rather, shot up into an upright position .. and realized I was really cold for no reason and sweating like crazy. Feeling unusually cold and sweaty on a mild summer's night .. yup.

As for what I was dreaming about .. something about my mortal fear about not being able to protect the people I care about, or something along those lines. I can pretty much conjure up a lucid dream in my nightmares at will .. but nightmares sometimes have a nasty way of conspiring against you and getting completely out of control quickly.

I get cold sweats fairly frequently. I, for some reason, always get them during the winter season. Maybe it's due to the changing between hot and cold environment. Who knows?

The earliest I can remember, and I can barely remember what I ate for breakfast, I would have to say was when I was 6-ish and saw my uncle after a car accident. He was bandaged almost entirely from head to toe and at first I thought he was some kind of monster come to life. Freaked me the hell out. When he was in a particular room that was part of the egress of the house (i.e. living room or dining room) I would dash through the room for dear life.

When I study for a test until I am exhausted I will get cold sweats right before I take the test. I tend to get cold sweats after particularly bad nightmares or when I am about to speak in front of people. I stopped eating bacon for a few years after participating in a pig dissection, but I just started eating it again recently and am now making up for lost time.

I get cold sweats when my mother/grandma/sister are about to "verbally shame" me.
Thanks for the other nervous conditions family.
