If all the new anime that is released comes through Crunchyroll, then we are screwed. Every new series is some horridly paced, highschool hipster powerup superdash. Wth? Yeah, that's what I feel like I'm watching. Cheesy, vague, and BRIGHT COLORS! but oh right.. I could just pop some molly and turn on G-force visualizer. No. I want to watch actual anime that doesn't come off abruptly obnoxious/annoying in the first 25 seconds of the first episode. Even on tolerable ones, it's just noticeably shallow in depth.

Now ask me why I have an account here and I'll respond why do I procrastinate too much.

But I would like to ask if anyone here knows details on other anime perhaps released this year? Maybe on the more mature side? With plot? Original story line? A "good storyline" pace- not one that fast forwards 3 years in the future every other 5 episodes. Perhaps without every protagonist being in a school uniform? Hell, I love the shit out of Hunter x Hunter, but the animation production still isn't capturing the feel of how utterly dark and screwed up the Ant Arc is in the manga.

Pretty much like all anime that was created before recent.

Garbage

--End rant.

Putting that^ aside, if you're looking for a good ongoing series: Hunter x Hunter

Shorter ones:
Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio (Futuristic marine warfare, plot is meh)
Monogatari Series Second Season (takes place during highschool, but doesn't deal with it very much, good mini-arcs)
Freezing Vibration (mixed feelings, good plot, doesn't go into characters too much, second season doesn't deal with high school much, even though characters are in high school)
Galilei Donna (plot went a bit downhill at the end, and doesn't delve into characters much, but fun to watch)
Sunday Without God (supernatural-type stuff, interesting, plot goes down a bit but still good show)
Kyousougiga (kinda weird, good show)
Outbreak Company (alternate world, lacks some plot, but interesting concept)
Attack on Titan (characters suck, plot is simple but *mostly* well-done, fun to watch)
Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta (fun plot, fun show, not amazing but good overall)

Anyways, I don't know what your tastes are, so I'm just suggesting stuff from what I've seen.

Go watch Magi the first season. No school uniforms, was released at the end of 2012 and ended in 2013. 25 episodes, original storyline, has a unique setting and has no time skips. It has a mature plot. and the first episode is really something. The second season is already ongoing right now for another 25 episode run so yep, go watch it.

Yeah, Magi started really intriguing but they screwed it up with the pacing imo towards the end of the first season and into the second.

Wouldn't it be great to have like 40-50 episode animes that aren't quite shounens in length, but can still get from point A to point Z with lots of rich detail.

So yea, my opinions must really be facts. Unless you enjoy watching commercialized anime all day.

I think your'e one of those people who thinks that the new stuff can never beat the old classics. And I think that way of thinking is pointless because if it can never get any better then whats the point in watching? It would mean that we've already seen the best anime.... so whats the point in continuing?

If you are disappointed with what you're watching then you seriously aren't looking hard enough.

Darker than Black, Trigun, Berserk, Hellsing, D. Gray Man, Claymore, Vampire Hunter D, Deathnote, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop, Mushishi, Monster, FMA.

Just to name a few. "

Anime does NOT come out like these anymore. And each of these were great at storytelling AND animation in their own original way more or less.

Edited in some suggestions, not to worry mate. BTW, spoiler ahead...

Pretty much everything is commercialized in this day and age.

Also, it ain't too hard to find good anime that suits your interests. There's a lot, so just spend a few extra minutes looking. On another note, just because they're in high school uniforms doesn't mean it'll suck.

Well it's proven, the OP is one of those that thinks that the new stuff can never beat the old classics.
Also having DBZ in there does not make a sound arguement.

Eh? It's HOW they're telling these stories. Magi, for example, has an excellent concept. But the way they are deciding to produce it in the longrun is awful.

These are all great. I like you.
But tbh if you don't watch anime for the sake of trying to find
something that that would be better than the classics,
then maybe you'd find something worth watching.

Space Brothers, Kids on the Slope, Rainbow and Steins;Gate
just to name a few. The style of storytelling has dramatically changed since then.
If you learned to accept that fact, it'd be much easier for your anime watching experience.

Acturally, Magi is absurdly condensed. They've converted about Dragonball Z Freeza Saga amount of plot into 2 seasons. Sure the pacing went a little wonky near the end of 1 and early second, but once they hit their stride at about episode 8, they REALLY hit a stride. They could have totally panned out the last 5 episodes for a good 20 if they wanted to.
