Now, I'm not one to judge. Because I myself love some beautiful anime girls. Maya Natsume, Pirotess, Shigure Kosaka, Lady Koto, Raika Oda, etc...

But, one has to wonder: Is it strange to find anime characters attractive? And why do we?

Most anime characters are too young for most of us. And when you really think about their ages, beyond their exaggerated mature features and adult personalities, they for the most part, are 14-15 year old kids.

Are we being tricked into being pedophiles? Or just caught up in the pedophilic desires of anime creators themselves?

Beyond the age, however, is the features of characters we find attractive. Let's consider Maya Natsume:

Wouldn't it be bizarre for a woman to have eyes this large in real life? To have a nose that small? Wouldn't she look like nightmare fuel, somewhat like real life creeper: Valeria Lukyanova?

Or, once underage, but now legal (yet still looks like a 40 year old worn out pornstar) Courtney Stodden?

If an anime character's features in real life would be disturbing, and their age would be illegal...why then do we find them attractive, and why is it normal for them to be sexualized like they are in Ecchi and Hentai anime?

These are the musings of a man high on prescriptions pain medication, but humor me and give me your thoughts on the matter.

You're over-thinking this, of course anime characters would look disturbing in real life, there's a reason why they're animated and not drawn close to realism. They are drawn to appease our eyes (in most situations) hence the reason of having big eyes, huge tits, slender body, etc., but of course since it's animated, the features are a bit exaggerated but not taken as seriously like it would've been in real life. Think of Patrick for example, seeing him in real-life form would look rather creepy. Why one finds anime characters attractive is a question you should be asking yourself.

From the anime I've seen, the sexy characters are actually older than me. :P
I too find anime characters really attractive (sadly more attractive than most actual girls), it kind of feels weird when I think about it.

It's one thing to find them sexy but it's another thing to be sexually attracted to them.

Maybe the characters you listed have exaggerated adult features and are 14-15 yearold kids, if that's what you like fine.

Most anime characters are not 14-15 year old kids.

Maybe it is because I haven't been an Anime fan as long as some people.

Maybe it is because I am a bit more grounded to reality.

Or just perhaps it might be because I beat the stereotype of a typical "anime fan" and have dated real women, thus know that I like the real thing...

But... I think it might be a mental problem or something to like something that isn't real, in this case an Anime character, in a sexual way. It might just be and obviously this is my opinion... but I find it wrong and kind of want to hit the people who give up real women for 2d girls on the back of the head NCIS style.

Now that said... I think it IS alright to find Anime girls (or guys) no matter the format (Anime, Manga, Fanart, etc) attractive in a NON-sexual way. It is admiring art after all, but being sexually attracted to it in anyway.... yeah I just have to shake my head at that.

EDIT:: Also of the whole... pedo thing... assuming we are talking about the fact of being.. sexually attracted to someone who is *cough* underage *cough*... if I remember correctly Japan's... well age of consent... is a lot less than say... the major US age... I think it is like 14 or 15? Might be less...

Also in my opinion while there are a lot of middle school ages kids in Anime, most are High School or older... which in japan would mean 16-18 and older.

Yes they are. The vast majority of anime characters are in high school or middle school. Though, that's not what I like, my favorite girls are all adults. (With the exception of Aya, who transforms from school kid to adult in Tenjou Tenge.)

I once read that a Japanese man was in a 'relationship' with a character in a game platform device, based on an anime. He takes her everywhere and described her as the 'perfect girlfriend'

I feel like this has been brought up before - but there are some very interesting qualifiers that make it somewhat unique in my perspective.

I won't really go into the whole "why are they attractive" thing, because I feel like that's been discussed before and there are probably quite a few after me who will give better explanations and theories.

But the age thing is a far more interesting question to me, personally. That's one reason why my "attraction" to most characters is somewhat curbed, as the age itself is massively unappealing. In other words, for me, the age tends to break my suspension of disbelief. But that's not always the case (for example, with adult characters like Athena Glory who are attractive and of reasonable age).

I don't think we're being coerced into some sort of pedophilia, but it is becoming a concern for me. A perfect example is the recently aired Non Non Biyori. I personally look at the characters like daughters or little sisters - they're just really cute. I think if you'd ask the majority of fans, they'd probably say the same thing. Thus, I think they're "attractive" only in that their aesthetically pleasing to look at. However, the prevalence of things like swimsuits and beach episodes makes me question if that's how the animators truly intend them to be seen. I certainly hope not, and it doesn't feel that way, but it is something to seriously consider...

They're a hell of a lot more good looking than real life males and females. Hence why I'll never resort to dating.

Yes! I find this to be very problematic these days. Take Strike Witches for example. It would be a great series, but they for some reason, feel the need to obsess with panty shots. What's the deal with having so many panty shots of a 14 year old girl like Miyafuji? Is that necessary?

And there are so many times, in so many animes, where these girls are getting undressed in their high school or middle school lockers, or at an onsen, or a public bath, and there will always be the: "Oh, your boobs are so much bigger!" moments, and they grope each other! Why? I mean, the scene is shot IN a high school locker room. What is your thought process anime creator? There's no way straight girls just latch on to each other's boobs like that. Get real, man.
